Has been recently appointed as technical adviser at Hitchin United

Payne has assembled a strong backroom team in his bid to create a winning formula at Top Field.

As well as assistant manager Carl Williams, Payne has appointed Mark Smith player-coach and added his brother, Derek, as Technical Adviser.

The four-man team brings together a wealth of experience. Derek Payne, 42, played for Barnet, Southend, Watford and Peterborough and has been in non-league football for the past few years. Smith, who returned to the club in the close season, is also taking on his first coaching role at the club.
