Ok Zone Castaways, now is your opportunity to share the stuff that the castaways on Desert Island Discs do each week.

Pretty simple really, you have to choose eight recordings (usually, but not always, music), a book and a luxury item that you would take if you were to be cast away on a desert island . They say that tastes in music and literature tells a lot about a person, I’m not sure if that is true but it will be interesting to see what people will choose. Also a few words as why the luxury item is essential to you on the ‘island’.

I’ll kick off with:

Discs –
Mike and the Mechanics – Word of Mouth (never tire of this track)
Joe Cocker – Delta Lady
Janis Ian – At Seventeen
Disturbed – Sound of Silence
Meatloaf – Paradise by the dashboard light
Rick Astley – Keep singing
The Beatles – Penny Lane
Focus – Hocus Pocus

That was really hard, I love the Jam, but not one track made my final list.

Book – Again, really difficult but I’ve settled for ‘Forgotten Voices of the Somme' by Joshua Levine. This book made me realise the sacrifices that so many made in the 1[SUP]st[/SUP] World War.

Finally the luxury item. – A̶ ̶j̶e̶t̶ ̶s̶k̶i̶.̶ ̶I̶’̶v̶e̶ ̶a̶l̶w̶a̶y̶s̶ ̶w̶a̶n̶t̶e̶d̶ ̶a̶ ̶g̶o̶ ̶o̶n̶ ̶o̶n̶e̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶i̶f̶ ̶I̶’̶m̶ ̶s̶t̶u̶c̶k̶ ̶o̶n̶ ̶a̶ ̶d̶e̶s̶e̶r̶t̶ ̶i̶s̶l̶a̶n̶d̶,̶ ̶w̶h̶y̶ ̶n̶o̶t̶?̶ Solar powered fridge stocked with Cloudy Bay sauvignon blanc.

There is a risk that this thread could crash and burn, through apathy but we will see.

Not through apathy on my part RHB, but through having to give this A LOT of thought. I'll be back...

Certainly does need some thought, but as my luxury item I'd have a solar powered laptop so I can keep you all amused. Or a big ****-off speedboat.

I found the music the hardest part. I could definitely have created many batches of 8 dependent on my mood at the time!

There is a very clean, low mileage Ducati Scrambler in PolePosition, Hobleythick lane if you are after one, looks great IMO too.

The Dirt is a great book.

I liked the quote after Nikki Sixx wrote Kickstart my heart - "I try and get at least one song out of every overdose."

Not my normal choice of bike but something I would use on a desert island. A sportsbike wouldn’t be much use to me there.
