In trouble with the Nigerian FA

Iorfa cries wolf - Over referees’ c’tee
Patrick Ngwaogu, Abuja - 03.05.2009

A board member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Dominic Iorfa caused a scene at the Glass House Secretariat of the Federation during the week when he openly accused a colleague on the referees’ committee of masterminding the poor performance of clubs from the North central zone of the country in the 2009 Globacom Premier league.

According to the Vice chairman of the Lobi Stars of Makurdi, the said NFL member was always in the habit of changing placement of referees to favour teams like Bayelsa United, Rangers International, Heartland FC and Enyimba International.

He alleged that the man who is also from the North central, is on the pay roll of these clubs.

Iorfa asked that the said member be removed from the committee or the teams, comprising Lobi stars, Nasarawa United, JUTH FC, FC Abuja, and Tornadoes will pull out from the remaining part of the league.

However, Iorfa was forced to eat his words when one of the Board members he called as witness denied ever discussing such an issue with him saying that among the teams from North Central, only Lobi Stars are being well-funded describing Iorfa as the architect of the club's poor performance.

He said that others had peculiar problems which make it difficult for them to effectively prosecute the league which he described as “cost-intensive".

As though that revelation was not enough, Iorfa was further embarrassed when the said committee member presented all the files and documents relating to referees placement including the handwritten copies signed by the referees’ committee chairman.
