I'm obviously not worthy because..............................................WHO?

And more to the point. Who actually gives a toss?

You've never heard of someone who won the Nobel prize for literature just six years ago? :stunned:

In answer to your question, I care, (and I'm sure other people do too).

When did philistinism become so acceptable in the UK?

I would hazard a guess her friends and family are probably pretty upset about it so they 'give a toss'.

Thatcher was a devisive,right-wing politician.Doris Lessing was a well-respected,first-rate author.

I'll be interested to see what some neanderthals on here have to say, when Nelson Mandella (and particularly Tony Benn), pop their cloggs.

As an aside, the man is pretty much a vegetable by all accounts. Seems as though SA are afraid to let him die.

Along similar lines (and we are veering way off topic here) I was surprised to see the other day that former Israeli PM Ariel Sharon is still alive. Been in a coma for years, but still hanging on.

Margaret Thatcher was a well respected by millions first rate politician. Because she took your Union mates on and kicked their arses you don't like her. If that was one of the reasons you deserted your home nation then more credit to Maggie.

Thatcher was certainly not well respected by millions in Scotland or in the North of England.

Nor was she well respected by many ordinary working people, trades unionists and Socialists, throughout the UK.

(Actually, I first left the UK when Callaghan was PM in 1978 so unfortunately, I can't claim that as a reason why I left.

Having returned for a year in 80/81, I was quite happy to go back abroad after that, though).

So, what you're implying is it's ok to not have respect for the dead, but only if they're someone you don't like? Bloody hell, do you ever listen to yourself? As for Mandella/Benn, I seem to recall that people were respectful when Michael Foot died, so I see no reason why Benn shouldn't be the same. As for Mandella, I think for the majority he'll be seen as someone that is above party politics. Pity you can't be really

Please show some respect whilst he is alive and spell his name correctly. It is Mandela.

And shouldn't us Neanderthals have been given a capital N?
