A breathtaking story with the likelyhood of tragic consequences. It is difficult to see how DSK can continue the delicate negociations concerning the problem economies of the Eurozone, with these charges hanging over his head. There seems to me the possibility of more economic instability in the weeks to come. Even if he is found innocent of the accusations it may well prove a step to far for the IMF, who had already reprimanded him back in 2008, for an indiscretion with a female member of his staff.
Seeing that DSK was viewed as probably the only candidate who could have defeated Sarkozy in next years Presidential Election it would be difficult not to believe that Mr Sarkozy may have a little smile on his face this morning, even allowing for the turmoil that these events may cause. On the political left, the conspiracy theorists are already smelling something foul. Meanwhilst, for me, the prospect of a similar re-run to the 2002 Election, where the choice will be between the 'right' and 'the extreme right' doesn't fill me with a great deal of enthusiasm...........to say the least.

Interesting and depressing suggestion just put forward by a colleague. The DSK affair may provide the opportunity for a little bit of anti-semitism to raise its ugly head. Sadly, there always appears to be a fertile ground for that in France..........certainly inside and outside of the National Front.

And especially among the Muslim denizens of Marseille and the Paris suburbs......

Except for Old boy the anti-semetic feeling was there well before they were in paris . Mind you I personally would send assassination squads to kill extreme anti-semits anyway as generally history shows they serve little purpose or benefit to man kind.

As a little more information starts to emerge, I have to say that there are two huge questions at the back of my mind. The first is, would the NYPD arrest one of the most influential figures in the world on the testimony of a black chambermaid? ...................even though it may sound it.......................... this is not meant as a racist or elitest comment..........................i'm just stating fact. The second is, would the NYPD take a risk of ending up with a huge amount of egg on their face by arresting him, if they were not pretty sure that they had a pretty good chance of making the charges stick?
In court it was claimed by the prosecution that "It was not the first time that Mr S-K had been involved in such an incident." Now, were they refering to the disclosure in France today OR are there other incidents that are going to come to light that have happened in the US? Is it possible that the authorities been compiling a dossier on him but until now, have not had the proof that has enabled them to move?
To me it still is very tragic and sad............but at the same, it has now becoming bleaker for DSK.

The question has...............to be asked.............who fecking cares..............no not .............that questions........ but why all the full stops,,,,,,,,,,,,,is your commor button/////////////// broken..........

Nobody in their right mind(and certainly neither my wife nor daughters)would vote for that odious slag.

What makes her an odious slag? From my readings she seems very level headed, educated and doesn't hold a grudge against the murderous left wing scum who tried to blow her up when she was an innocent 4 year old. Of course, attempted murder of minors wouldn't come into the grand socialist scheme of things from your average right minded type would it.

Well if it was good enough for Sir Winston ...

Not that it changes much but, unlike the FN often is, I like to try and be factually correct. When the explosion took place, in 1976, Marine Le Pen was 8 years old.

No not at all.......... no end of season fight to stay up and.........................ive seen at least one good game all......season............rather be safe then drop into the national...............

FWIW, the teachers at the LFB here(where I teach a Cambridge CAE class and my wife works FT)are convinced that it's a set up, either by Sarkozy or the FN.We shall see.

It may not be if you believe the story of a Ms Banon who claims he attempted to rape her 10 years ago.
