Well if it was good enough for Sir Winston ...

Also he orchestrated and helped from the Black and Tans already mentioned.
GHG please no one is defending murderous scumbags . Anyone can find a justification for what they do if they look hard enough (I bet if we gave a nutter a copy of Noddy Goes to Toy Town a subtext of removing invaiders could be found to preserve pixie purity). It's teh act the individual performed and their motivation not the social structure they belong too .

It may not be if you believe the story of a Ms Banon who claims he attempted to rape her 10 years ago.

Maybe the case but , still doesn't stop it being a poor set-up . At the level he is , high class escorts who are discrete and available would be no problem for a man or woman of that money and class to obtain .

His reputation as a womaniser is precisely what 's made it easier to put him behind bars without bail.I would be more inclined to believe the good lady if she'd come out with her story at the time, rather than now, when he's a soft target.

Come on H, he can't be a bad guy, he's not even right wing! Unlike that slag Le Pen, who's obviously morally destitute. The lunacy and myopia of the left never ceases to amaze me. Keep drinking the Kool Aid comrades.

I see your total ignorance of French domestic politics is well up to par with your comic and grotesque right wing view of the world in general.:hilarious:

Brilliant comeback Barnaby. You're on fine form today. I know enough to see how laughable it is that every time someone from the left trips up, it's some sort of right-wing conspiracy. And do you think your Politics degree from Scumbag Polytechnic really gives you some sort of intellectual authority?

DSK is well known for his Social Democratic views,as he's demonstrated recently in charge of the IMF with regard to the Greece,Ireland and Porugal bail outs, etc.The mere fact that he's the head of the IMF does not, ipso facto, make him a right winger.M le Pen,on the other hand is a genuine right winger, whose views on immigration and immigrants are repugnant to most liberals.(incidentally many FN supporters I've spoken too in the Midi, hold profoundly anti-semitic views, which they're usually more than willing to admit to privately, if not publically).
There is an intelligent debate going on in this thread, mostly from Yogi's well informed contributions. Why not join it?

I am fully aware that DSK is a technocratic socialist, hence my assertion that you and your little Glee Club couldn't regard him as a bad guy. I would have thought that the irony was quite clear, or is English your second language? There's no intelligent debate going on here, just you and the other girls slapping each other on the back and agreeing with each other.

From Victor Davis Hanson, writing in the National Review:

The bizarre story of socialist IMF head Dominique Strauss-Kahn was almost storybook: The socialist guardian, now facing sordid sexual-battery charges, we are told, was slumming in a $3,000 per night hotel, with an understanding that he can show up at any time at an Air France flight and hop on a first-class seat. His sense of entitlement — from violating the law to living like 18th-century French royalty to purportedly having his way with a worker of the lower classes —was the logical bookend to the IMF’s harsh lectures to Greeks and others to suck it up, cut back, and live according to their means in these times of global recession. (Not to mention the prior exemptions granted by the IMF to the suspect’s past sexual peccadillos.) It is almost as if the more our global experts assure us that equality-of-result central planning works, the more such an egalitarian veneer seems to mask a self-indulgent core.

As we saw with allegations of Al Gore’s having groped hotel masseuses, there seems to be some sort of synergy with global humanitarian elites toiling on our behalf, fancy hotels, exclusive travel — and sexual aggression against those toiling in the service sector. In some sick way, just as Gore’s mounting hypocrisies came to symbolize the decline in global-warming religious observance, so too Strauss-Kahn’s “indulgences” may be emblematic of the mounting hypocrisies of the IMF.

In any case, Greeks who were thinking of defaulting (and they were legion) were looking for the slightest excuse of any sort, and now they may well have found one, however unlikely: If the head of the IMF overseers cannot follow the law, symbolically reflect in his own life the tough sacrifices asked by others, and abide by protocols of common decency, why then should his indebted subjects?

Ladbrokes latest betting

2012 French Presidential Election
Nicolas Sarkozy - 6/4
Francois Hollande - 3/1
Dominque Strauss-Kahn - 4/1
Martine Aubry - 4/1
Dominique De Villepin - 16/1
Segolene Royal - 16/1
Marine Le Pen - 16/1

I'm struggling understand where the tragedy is in a man being brought to justice for crimes he might have committed. If he's guilty he deserves to be behind bars, if he's innocent he'll be released. This isn't a tragedy, this is the workings of justice.

This is the only DSK that I'm worried about:

She wanted to but was persuaded by her mother who had political and family links with DSK at the time. Her mother now regrets that decision.

She came out with the story in 2007.

Even the Grauniad reported it, so I'm a little surprised you weren't aware of that:

Tristane Banon previously described the attack, which happened when she was in her early 20s, in a television programme in 2007, when she called Strauss-Kahn, whose name was bleeped out, a "rutting chimpanzee."

The conspiracies at the moment appear to be left-wing ones to cover up this incident.

That's what I thought. Maybe our Politics Trader knows something we don't, but I was surprised to see him in the list.

I'm surprised that you are surprised that you offer crap odds.

Anyway, I'd put money on him at 4,000-1. All it would take is for this case to be dismissed and he can go on the offensive, say how he's been stitched up and play the victim, how he's Dreyfuss all over again. Before you know it, he could be President and there will be a new Tour de France.

Yeah, I vaguely remember reading about the story.Unfortunately, while I've been reading The Guardian regularly since 6th form days, I don't have total recall of each and every article that's appeared in it since then.:winking:

Which left wing conspiracy theories could you possibly be referring to, as the story has been widely featured on the BBC ,that bastion of left wing propaganda? (irony alert).
