So the president of Barcalona wants top clubs who fail to qualify for the Champions' League to be given wildcards like in tennis:

BBC

What an idiot. Apart from the obvious: that this is moving further and further away from a Champions' League, he seems to have completely missed the point of tennis wildcards. Other than at Wimbledon where the majority seem to go to British also rans, they're nearly always given to up and coming youngsters. In tennis the top players always qualify because of their ranking.

This system - which I don't like - already exists to an extent in European basketball. The very top teams get in to the Euroleague regardless of performance and I reckon this'll happen in our game soon enough.
