Eddie Firmani

Eddie was one of my boyhood heroes but his time at the Hall was marred by an injury, probably that referred to earlier in this thread. At a supporters' club function he told me that he suffered from varicose veins of the the testicles which limited his appearances for Blues.

He was generous to supporters and I recall him stopping his Mercedes at the bus stop near the ground and picking up some supporters waiting for the London-bound No. 251 bus after a game.

Watford were a force to be reckoned with at the time (Cliff Holton et al) and one happy memory was Eddie scoring in an FA Cup victory over the Hornets at the Hall. Sweet revenge for some league defeats at the time.

Remember it still

Help needed, please.I cannot immediately recognise the player stood directly behind Trevor Roberts ?

Isn’t it Alex Lumsden ? Played one game between Firmani leaving and Ingle joining. Jan 14 1967 v Halifax 1-0.

And played last game of the 65/66 season.

Me too. I contacted a relative in Florida and she tried, to no avail.
I also tried to contact Eddie before SUEPA came along possibly around 2016 or 2017, after I was told by somebody at Charlton Athletic he had been back to the Valley in recent years?? Eddie was on F/B but alas I never had a reply. Although his F/B page is still showing at the moment there has been no activity since March 2015.

About the greatest footballers I ever saw in a Southend shirt. He was really past his prime when he came to Roots Hall but his football brain was such that he was two moves ahead of his teamates. I remember one game when he spent much of the time telling the referee how to manage the came...hilarious!
