Another defender John Egan joins on emergency loan from Sunderland. 21, has had loan spells with Palace, Bradford and Sheff Utd so should be decent. Let's hope he lasts more than one game!

Played a little at a higher level, let's hope he can jump straight in and do a job

Already had a broken leg in is career. How often do we get players who have had big injuries?

Don't forget, we are a League 2 club. We aren't going to sign top quality players - pretty much every player we sign has some kind of defect or reason for why they aren't at a higher level. Often it makes sense to sign 'unfashionable' players - they offer better value (but might be higher risk) - it's a key moneyball concept.

"John is a no-nonsense kind of defender with an attitude of putting his head in," boss Phil Brown told BBC Essex.

Just text my Sunderland supporting mate and he says he's not a bad player and has played for the first team a couple of times. Says he will do well for us in league two.

Welcome to the club John hope it's not as short as the last twos appearances.

I appreciate that we are not going to afford or attract top quality players but your statement in terms of this division is laughable. Plenty of clubs in our division have signed numerous players that do not have a serious injury history. We almost specialise in it.
