SOUTHEND United have completed a loan swoop for Sunderland defender John Egan ahead of Saturday's clash with Wycombe Wanderers at Roots Hall.

So what was all that b0llox about the new defender being an ex Blues player?

Great to have someone in, was more reassured by Cian and his experience but hopefully he will do well.

They did say we were talking to several players.

I appreciate that we are not going to afford or attract top quality players but your statement in terms of this division is laughable. Plenty of clubs in our division have signed numerous players that do not have a serious injury history. We almost specialise in it.

A broken leg isnt a recurring injury so as long as he has recovered dont see the issue.

No it is not a recurring injury but for a footballer it is a serious one and it was sustained at the age of twenty and historically we have seen how much these injuries thwart a players progress. 14 months on and not a single first team game under his belt since the injury.

I hope he turns out to be the best thing ever on the books of our club. I just wish we did not have to rely on someone who has so very little league experience, match fitness and who missed a large chunk of learning time at a critical stage.

Yes would be great if he did have more experience but he is a current U21 international so must be doing something right.

Dervitte came to us with no experience whatsoever and that panned out ok and he had a fairly serious knee injury prior to that too.

Egan may well turn out to be good or rubbish, thats the chance you take with kids, but at least he is at a premiership club getting international recognition so fingers crossed its the former.

can we ensure st. john's ambulance are on call and that we have another loanee on the subs bench. Surely we can't break two in one match, or could we?

If he puts his head in there he can borrow Prossers headgear. Hasn't played first team football for a year ? My vote goes to hamstring after 37 minutes. Hope to be totally wrong and he has some great games with us and gets career back on track after broken leg, Having fractured tib and fib myself i wish him all the very best of fortune
