Just had ours in today and it's 50% up on the same quarter from last year. We never have lights on in rooms no-ones in and our home is empty between 8.30 a.m to 5 p.m. so none is being used throughout the day. God knows what the gas bill will be when that turns up after the sub-zero temperatures we've had to endure in recent weeks.

That's a tad misleading - it might have gone from £20 to £30 or £200 to £300! Both 50% increase.

Look at the electricity you use - anything that produces heat is a big consumer - heating, oven, tumbly. Is your loft insulated? Not fun i know but it'd save £££ if it isn't and you do it. It's not tricky.

Alot of electricity can be wasted by leaving things on standby, eg Sat box, DVD player, TV, phone chargers, etc. Fit energy saving lightbulbs.

Move your gas and electric to one supplier, if you havent already.

My gas has gone up quite a bit. My electric doesnt appear to have (yet).
