The provisional squad's going to be announced a week today. So who'd be your 23-man squad to take to the tournament? Will be interesting to see if Hodgson's first squad is very different from Capello's last. Mine:

Goalkeepers: Hart, Foster, Carson.

Defenders: Johnson, Richards, Cahill, Terry, Lescott, Jones, King, Cole.

Midfielders: Walcott, Young, Lampard, Gerrard, Parker, Carrick, Milner, Johnson.

Strikers: Rooney, Welbeck, Crouch, Sturridge.

Admittedly I'm going to have a few arguments with UEFA about my classification of Rooney as my third keeper for the first two games of the Euros but **** 'em. I think he went in goal for a Nike ad and if Nike are sponsors then I'm sure it'll be ok. If I can't have him, I think my next choice is Mildenhall.

Most of the selections are pretty straight forward eg Becks is still our best set piece specialist and is a more realistic choice to drag out of international retirement than Scholes; Barry has been overlooked by everyone despite (a) not being Steven Gerrard and (b) playing the second most games (maybe) for the Champions elect. Wilshire is probably going to be injured, but naming him will **** off Wenger and it's worthwhile for that alone. Not sure who replaces him if he's out - Cleverly maybe?

If anyone can think of any decent midfielders please let me know*. Presume Huddlestone has lost his way under 'Arry's mismanagement at Spuds. Thought he looked a good prospect a few years back.

*And on that note, if you can think of any other decent keepers or forwards please let Woy know.

There seem to be many selecting Robinson & Foster both of whom have decided that they don't want to play for England again. Or was that for a particular manager? IMO they can't pick and choose, if it were me I would want to play for my country whatever the situation.

Hart
Carson
Loach

Walker
Richards
Jagielka
Terry (reluctantly)
Cahill
Baines
A. Cole
Jones

Walcott
Oxlade-Chamberlain
Lampard
Parker
Scholes
Barry
Young
Johnson

Rooney
Sturridge
Defoe
Carroll

Wellbeck over Sturridge for me, looks to have more of an all round game. Sturridge hasnt score for eons. I would take Defoe and Crouch as they have done the business before. Carroll will probably go too. Think Hodgson likes a strong targetman.
I agree with YB about Barry, best midfielder for England over the last 3-4 years. I think him and Parker will sit in the middle and Young and Wallcott will play on the wings.
The one person Iwould not take is John Terry. You cannot have a harmonious, united dressing room with him in the squad. Hes been on the wane for some time too. I would start with Cahill and Jones.

Look out for Espanyol's Philippe Coutinho(on loan from Milan))in the Brazilian squad this summer. He's a class act.

**** off, stop hijacking threads.

Hart
Carson
Ruddy

Walker
Johnson
Smalling
Terry
Ferdinand
Baines
A. Cole
Jones

Gerrard
Oxlade-Chamberlain
Lampard
Parker
Carrick
Barry
Young
Johnson

Rooney
Holt
Carroll

There's rumours that Foster will come out of retirement for the Summer as he gets on well with Hodgson. that's fine with me - we're really struggling for back-up goalkeepers.

I'd go:
Joe Hart
Scott Carson
Ben Foster

Micah Richards
Kyle Walker
Ashley Cole
Leighton Baines
Gary Cahill
Rio Ferdinand
Joleon Lescott

Steven Gerrard
Scott Parker
Gareth Barry
James Milner
Frank Lampard
Ashley Young
Theo Walcott
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Wayne Rooney
Danny Welbeck
Rickie Lambert
Jermain Defoe
Daniel Sturridge

Sturridge would be marginal though. He's been crap since Di Matteo took over. Phil Jones has played his way out of the squad and Frank Lampard has played his way in.

If Rickie Lambert's dodgy knee won't let him go then I'd go for Andy Carroll.

You seem to have missed out England's one decent centre-half....?

Who's that? Lescott?

I've only seen these players play for England so the fringe players I'm taking something of a punt on (particularly Oxlade-Chamberlain who I'm doing a Sven on).

If he's actually any good let's chuck him in. You're generally sensible on football matters, do you want to be my assistant when I get appointed to succeed Hodgson?

That would be bad news for Steven Gerrard.

Yeah, Lescott. I don't get how underappreciated that guy is. He's been top quality all season and is streets ahead of racist Terry and cripple Ferdinand.

Yeah I missed Lescott from my squad, he'd make it ahead of Smalling.

I wouldn't be picking anyone who have stated they have withdrawn from international football, so despite Foster and Robinson being clearly the second and third best English 'keepers they would be at home. Similarly, this rules out Paul Scholes. Rooney is a conundrum. He is banned for games one and two, so I would be reluictant to take him - and in all honesty, how many good games has he has for England since he has been in his 20's? Also, if we have been good enough to qualify from the group through results in the first two games, I would not necessarily wnat to change things around by introducing a potential loose cannon. Gerrard is a waste of space in an England shirt. The self-styled JT will only bring grief, as always - and I can't stand Lampard (who will probably have the hump that Uncle 'Arry is not manager). So here's my 23:

Hart, Ruddy, Green; Richards, Walker, Cole A., Gibbs, Lescott, Jagielka, Cahill, Ferdinand R.; Parker, Carrick, Murphy, Milner, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Young, Johnson A. (Man City), Osman; Walcott, Crouch, Welbeck, Sturridge.

Didn't you nominate Osman as a rubbish player who should be nowhere near the international side the other week?
