I have been watching the sky sports transfer centre and BBC sport like a hawk. Reading rumours and all the transfer news. But one thing is starting to show. England and the Premier League is slowly becoming less of an attraction for big players. Now my question is why?

Falcao has chosen to go to newly promoted Monaco where he won't be playing champions league football. So why there instead of the other options he had? He could of come to England and be on as much wages wise here than he is on at Monaco.

It seems players linked with the top 4 in the prem are choosing France, Germany and Spain over the premier league. Why has the premier league become less attractive? Years ago it was the place to be everyone wanted to play in England. Now Ligue 1 and the Bundesliga make the Premiership look pretty pansy.

Just thought I would throw this one out for discussion.

Isn't it the tax burden they face here a big issue?

True, it is much lower than other places (especially Monaco). Also read that Monaco might be forced to play in the 2nd tier in France as the other clubs have complained that they have an advantage when it comes to offering wages. Rumours are that Falcao is getting around £12m after tax, to get that in England he will be getting around £22m a year before tax or around £435k a week before tax!!

Also, the "big 4" failing in the Champions League could have a big factor too. With Dortmund and Bayern getting to the final, with Barcelona and Real Madrid getting to the semis, they would look a much bigger appeal than Arsenal or Man Utd. Man Utd losing Fergie could be big too as everyone around the world knew who he was while Moyes hasn't made a name from himself in Europe.

There have been a fair amount of transfers, but no "massive" ones to grab the headlines. Maybe Thiago to Man Utd and Higuain to Arsenal will bring the excitement ....

Thiago is now apparently going to Bayern Münich! And the Higuain transfer has been going on for so long you know it won't happen.

Bayern do have the "Guardiola factor", but he will be going to a team that potentially has a midfield as good as his current team's. If Bayern do then they would have 3 of the hottest property attacking midfielders (Kroos and Gotze).

I think the tax rate in Monaco is very low if at all,Although Turkey only has a few clubs that can attract big players i read in paper last week that the tax rate is only 15%.These things tend to go in cycles,Italian,Spanish and English leagues have had their periods at the top now it looks like it could be Germanys turn.

Its money. Thread closed.

Thanks for your great input there. It can't just be money, not every player is that money driven. Look at Luke Shaw turning down Chelsea, Manchester City and United to stay at Southampton on a 5 year deal.

Players going to the likes of Monaco are doing it purely for the money. Falcao could have gone to any team in Europe and competed for major trophies. He isnt from Monaco and has no other motivation for going there other than money. He isnt going win anything there so there is no footballing reason to go there. It certainly doesnt mean the french league is a better league than the English league.

Luke Shaw staying at Southampton has no bearing on that, he wants to stay where he is for the time being as he is still young.

Did you say the same when players went to PSG and started going to Man City because of the money ....

WEll they have certainly won a title each, but hardly major players when it comes to the champions league (and Man City barely competed for anything this year).

Falcao could have joined a top club that could have, he has joined monaco, who may well buy some success, but if he was more interested in actually competing for the top honours he would have joined a top club.

Monaco may well challenge for the french league, but he could have been challenging for the English or Spanish leagues AND the champions league.

He didnt, he chose to chase the dollar.

PSG have got several top players who could walk into any other team in the world. They came very close to knocking out Barcelona last season too.

Monaco are now building a big team with some big names too, not just Falcao, and it isn't like they have come out of nowhere. They were a top flight team in France for many seasons and even reached the Champions League final, where I think they lost to Mourinho's Porto.

I'm not saying money never came into it, but it will never always be that straight forward.

I heard a rumour that Falcao joined Monaco with a deal struck through Real Madrid as Atletico wouldn't sell to another Spanish team so Monaco bought him and will sell him to Real Madrid next season for the same amount.

Money not only came into it, it was the primary factor he chose them.

Who would choose to play in front of 6,000 people when he could be playing for the top clubs in Europe like Manchester United/Real Madrid.

Instead he chose a club about the same size as Southend, which had nothing to do with a massive tax free salary

As far as comparing us to them, it goes as far as attendance figures and that is it.

What were his options?

Manchester United? They wouldn't have gone near the asking price for him.
Real Madrid? Sell him to their biggest rivals? NEVER!
Manchester City? A team who didn't have a manager at the time.
Barcelona? Who had just spent a very large sum of money on Neymar.
Chelsea? With Abramovich wanting his star player Torres to stay, I doubt it.

So he chose Monaco, and spending 1-2 seasons there were he could win multiple titles and cups in France with a very high chance of Champions League football next season and with the money he has made then he will be set for life. He is only 27, so has several years left at the top of the game.

The player didn't have a choice. He is 'owned' by a consortium of businessmen who were always going to accept the highest bid.

Money money money!

Monaco are not the biggest club even in France yet top players still join them and would these very same top players go there if offered 5 grand per week.

Who would join a top club on 5 grand per week?

How many players would have joined Man City on that much?

Money might talk, but if a player can see that a club can afford to spend a vast amount on top quality players then they know that club is going to be one of the biggest in the near future.

Money is king in football,
There are only a handful of clubs in Europe who can possibly win the CL and every top player claims they must play CL football yet if Barca offered Rooney 70k per week would he sign,He would demand to be one of the top earners .

Monaco are a very small club with small crowds to match yet are signing big names who are not going there for the sun.
