Labour has said it will not take part in cross-party discussions about "English votes for English laws".

With the Commons debating devolution, Labour said it would boycott a body set up by David Cameron to examine the future role of English MPs.

Surely Labour need to be involved in this?

Mods - Perhaps should be moved to Politics Forum?

Funny as Labour would lose out their Scottish votes and would then struggle to get things passed through if they couldnt rely on those seats for English only issues.

My personal view is that the Tories want this as they know that if tax is devolved then the South their fiefdom will grow even more wealthy. If you look at what is happneing in Scotland it is clear that the SNP and Labour if they got a majority would increase tax to pay for their policies. The SNP have already started. The tax would hit the rich. But they have a choice in the future. They can and some will relocate both personally and with their businesses to less tax burdensome parts of the country. Maybe if this happens and it will take time then the more delusional parts of the country might become more financially prudent. There will be a flight of entrepeneurial expertise south.
Labour of course know how to spend your money and are worried that if their Scottish MPs cannot vote of purely English matters it in effect means apart from foreign policy and defence that England has a Tory goverrnment.

According to Gordon Brown

"the idea of English votes for English laws had been "imposed" by David Cameron after the referendum result and Scottish MPs must sit in the UK Parliament on "equal terms"

In this context, "equal" should mean that if Scottish MPs can vote on English laws, then English MPs can vote on Scottish laws, or does "equal" have a different definition north of the border?

We have so much spare cash kicking around lets spend it on constant referendums and creating new levels of beaurocracy and extra MPs and maybe even a whole new Parliament and confusion about who is actually accountable for what and new levels of the postcode lottery and an opportunity to claim our rivals are undemocratic because they won't readily sign up to.... well we haven't actually decided what yet but we'll leave the unelected House of Lords as it is because we can't focus on things for long enough to see them through as we have a new way to change everything without any real concept of consequences and.....what happened to UK as a unit, when did we all become so focused on our little corner. Better together? Better forget it.
