For those who care, we are away at Harlow in the third round of the Essex Senior Cup.

Amongst the other ties White Ensign go to East Thurrock and Billericay host Concord. Southend Manor host Grays, as they would have done in the FA Cup if they'd beaten FC Romania.

Date confirmed Harlow v southend u 23 on tuesday 6th November.........I’ll be at that one:Smile:

Decent setup at Harlow modern ground and fair sized bar too

their loans are initially for a month so could be back with us and I think for Us/Col Utd is an U23 competition so I imagine we would want them to play for us
I wonder if these clubs are in uproar like we are when prem u23s play in the checkatrade...what next - we'll have a southend B team / under 23s team playing in the Isthmian League:Fishing:

I'll bite, It's not really the same thing. The non league clubs have the FA Trophy and Vase which is a competition they can realistically win and get a trip to Wembley with no outside interference from football league clubs. I can see why people get the hump with the football league trophy being opened up to U21 Premier league teams.

The Essex Senior Cup and other county equivalents, are a different animal. They always had pro teams in them and the bigger clubs have always played reserves

I’m afraid your last sentence is incorrect—back in the day(50’s and 60s!) Leyton Orient,Colchester and ourselves regularly fielded full-strength line-ups in front of large crowds, comparable to those at their Third Division South, then Third Division games. The competition was the Essex Professional Cup and only later under a new name—Essex Senior Cup—did interest wane.

Not only that, the county lines were stretched to include West Ham.

They won it that year ! Brian Rhodes was their keeper in that match.

We are now the only League side remaining in this year's competition. It's ours to lose.

West ham , being east of the River Lea, were an Essex club until the formation of the GLC in 1965 , same as Orient

TITco of Peckham used to do ethnic tours in the area, including the Lea Valley Viaduct, in the 1980s I seem to recall. I’m not sure if they still do, mind
