Not a lot to say about Saturday's referee. He is first year League referee, Darren Handley from Bolton who made it on to the League list after 6 years of Conference officiating. He is 37 and a PE teacher at Tottington High School.

His 25 matches this season have produced a just slightly above average 82 yellows and a well above average 8 reds (all but one of which have been shown to away players).

He has refereed Southend just once before, this season's home 0-0 draw with Plymouth when there was just one yellow for them. He did okay in that game.

This will be his first Exeter match, home or away. Slightly surprising that they've given him a 500 mile round trip for this game.

His assistants are Dumitru-Ravel Cheosiaua from Redditch (again, 300 mile round trip for a lino seems excessive!) and Mark Derrien from Dorchester with Adam Matthews from Gloucester acting as Fourth Official.
