My wife has just witnessed an explosion at Coryton refinery.

Seems to be under control now but you never know........

I saw that.....it was a slightly over dramatic quote given that they could not have possibly known anything at that time it was posted.

Atleast the fire and rescue website have a better understanding of not making it super sensational because the only other item you have to print is about an bloke with some owls....

"Crews have been called to a fire at an oil refinery in Coryton. Reports of an explosion are unconfirmed but ten appliances and seven specials are on the scene.
Fire on ground floor of the Naptha Tower. Flames 100 feet up the column. Major foam attack in progress. Cooling monitors in use to avert potential for explosion.
The borough Emergency Planning Officer has been called to the scene.
At 12:30pm, a search was launched for persons reported missing from staff on site. This is a precautionary measure.
At 12:35pm, Essex crews are liaising closely with Coryton's own specialist fire teams.
At 12:40pm, All persons are accounted for at the incident. There are no plans to evacuate homes at this stage. Avoid Coryton area as road blocks are in place."

I saw it. Scared me, I'll say. No casualties, the major incident team had already been alerted so P+ knew there was a major problem.

My postal address is Corringham. Corringham is in Thurrock Council area. Point, thus, disproven.

Thurrock includes Corringham, Stanford-le-hope, Grays, Chafford Hundred, Tilbury etc.

BP Oil UK Limited - Coryton Refinery, The Manoway, UK-Stanford-Le-Hope
SS17 9LL, Essex,

Petroplus Coryton Refinery, The Manorway,
Stanford-le-Hope, Essex SS17 9LL

The above are BP and Petroplus oil's addresses in Coryton, both pulled from their websites....Notice is says Stanford-Le-Hope and NOT Thurrock!!

Thurrock is not a town though - whereas Stanford-le-Hope and Corringham are - West Thurrock is a town in Thurrock.

Still not entirely sure why Coryton comes under Stanford-le-Hope when it's actually closer to Corringham, Fobbing and even Canvey than SLH.

Rayleigh is a town in the district of Rochford. My parents have an Eastwood postal address, the same as me but come under Rochford Council for tax, rubbish collections etc.

Hmmmmmmmm just checked and all of the following have SS postcodes so I guess that seals it Basildon, Benfleet, Canvey Island, Hockley, Leigh-on-Sea, Rayleigh, Rochford, Southend-on-Sea, Stanford-le-Hope, Westcliff-on-Sea and Wickford in England.
