FA Trophy Round 4 - Dagenham & Redbridge (A)

Hello Shrimpers, Dagger in peace here if you want a drink try out the clubhouse very cheap drink compared to local pubs and you should be able to get on with no colours if they state no away fans nonsense. Big screens to watch any early football and you can leave at 2.55 to get in your seat.

The pipe major pub is a carvery venue so not a typical stand up and drink pub before football, you’ll end up outside in the cold of it’s too busy which it normally is Saturday afternoons with people eating.

Other alternative is Romford, plenty of pubs and the 103 bus drops you right outside ground and takes about 15 mins.

Dagenham close enough to Southend so why not look upon them as rivals ,same as we do with Col ewe and a certain degree Borient.

My viewpoint as well certainly heard the same amount of animosity from both sets of fans when we visited in november. They're an arrogant club with a pitifully poor home attendance who get one victory over us in about 20 and think they run Essex now.

I get that you had a bad experience at an away game once which has turned you against this club, but I literally don't know any Southend fan who considers them a 'main rival'. It's a handy game to get to down the A13 or on the train.

It's debatable whether Dagenham is even in Essex any more .. it's in the London borough of Barking & Dagenham. Considering their proximity to WHU and their history what do you expect their attendances to be?

Arrogant in what way?

To me Daggers have always been a decent little community club, who are accommodating towards away fans, with decent facilities, and a proper footballing environment.

Ok some of their fans are on loan from West Ham for the days we visit, but the club can’t be blamed for that.

The only arrogance I can see, is from some of our own, who believe we are in some way morally superior, simply because we have a history of playing in higher divisions than them.

Do you consider Gillingham rivals?

Arrogant? Never in a million years have we been an arrogant club. Every club has its set of inbred fans that want to start a rivalry in a big game but are not to be seen in a standard game. Dagenham is in London not Essex, has been since the 70’s and we’ve never been well supported even in league one. Sounds like Barry is starting a rivalry on his own here.

The thing that worries me is not losing in a so-so competition, but how badly?
The last thing we want is that sliver of confidence to get wiped away.

Another concern is injury.

Three games in a week for one or two is stretching it, and preferably not hamstrings, but I can't see how KM and co has any choice but to play a strongish side.

The motivation is another factor.

Those league games on the near horizon have far more going for them.
So, given the choice in fantasy land, will take a 1-0/2-1 defeat if it means all our players come through unscathed and ready to face King's Lynn with gusto.
Would prefer a win, but NOT if it means key figures get crocked doing so.

PS. and FWIW, always like the fact Dagenham keep going in the face of adversity and indifference from most in the surrounding area.

Your a straight up club Digger with decent fans,no more to be said really.

I just find them dislikeable in the extreme. Case in point the Collymore and Ron Martin chants not to mention the incredibly original Southend get battered chorused by their cave dwelling fanbase. Making certain pubs home fans only as if it's West Ham v Millwall utterly embarrassing. What next an escort to the ground or keeping us locked in the stands till the home fans disperse?

As for welcoming, 2 of my least enjoyable trips have been to that ground. No doubt Saturday will be more of the same as they savour the one time a year they can actually attract a crowd.

Also I do consider Gillingham rivals although to a lesser extent.

West Ham v Leeds Sunday so no doubt some of their lot will head to our game the day before to try and give it the biggun. It's so tedious I'm getting too old for the idiots in football.

We hate Dagenham we hate Dagenham getting battered everywhere they go

@digger, I have only been to your ground twice, first time was fine, and I did have beer in club house, no problem and okay.
2nd time was not so good, not dagger fans but loads of Herberts, supposedly SUFC supporters, full behind goal and half of side so no space to get far from the gobby, foul mouthed, racist inbreds.
There were very few dagger fans in ground, less than 2k?
Stewards were fine despite the challenges of the uncouth,
Chips below stand good and hot.
I will give this game a miss, not thru Dagger fans or game issues; but I hope you and yours don't have it spoilt by the above mentioned followers of my club.

As someone who was born in rush green and who knows the area well. I definately class Dagenham as Essex.

It was dragged into being a london borough several decades ago but does not have a London postcode and a postal address of Essex

I quite like a visit to the daggers. Decent away end and always pop in the eastbrook pub without any issues or trouble for a few pre match pints. Dissapointed they stopped us using their clubhouse as liked chatting to a few daggers fans in there.

Certainly don't see them as a local rival, although techically it is. Its more a case of them being historically a national league /league 2 side. There has been huge gaps in games against due to different divisions.

Orient and col u are often in the same division as us and this has led to a better rivalry.

From what you've said before, you chose to go into the home end and blatantly celebrate a Southend goal so it's hardly surprising you weren't welcomed. Tell me what ground in the country you'd get away with that?

Oh and that excuses being pelted with projectiled and ambushed by some of their self proclaimed hardmen while I had my young son with me? I celebrated through instinct because we scored and this is my club.

Of course it doesn't excuse it but you should've been in the away end. If you're in the home end for whatever reason you keep schtum. It's an unwritten rule. Would you be happy with a Daggers fan going mental in the West Stand when they scored? Of course you wouldn't. We have fans of our own who'd kick off if that happened.

I get your point and it was a mistake on my part. Found them unwelcoming for other reasons too, the fabricated hostility towards us in local pubs a few years back even though at the end of the day we're just blokes having a drink like they are. Yet because we have a different shirt on they want to kick our heads in.

We deserve all the banter we get from clubs like Dagenham… we have spiralled out of league one pathetically. You get what you deserve and we certainly dish it out.

I had a comp at daggers earlier in season and sat around daggers fans, all were great. Good club and always enjoy my visits.

Here we go again! How many times have we heard this story?
