Indeed. Nothing conjours up the images of the greats of that era better than a 1st Round FA Youth Cup Tie!

I see Corinthians are in the draw, along with Romulus, conjouring up images of the Roman Empire .. Shame they weren't drawn against each other!

Surely the Corinthians would be conjuring up images of the Greek empire; the ultimate clash of civilisations - the Greeks versus the Romans.

Absolutely, the Greeks vs. the Romans.

A mighty tussle.

There was a Roman Corinthian Order, so I stand by my original assumption, but much prefer the above match-up.

NB : There is no truth in the rumour that the Roman Corinthian Order was founded in North Yorkshire!

Your kids would have an easier game against our first team. Don't think there was a difficult tie in the draw for Danny Webb's tyros, to be fair.

FA Youth Cup 1st Round

Looks like both teams are playing an unchanged side and both opting for the conventional 4-4-2 system first adopted by the Babylonian Empire under their managership of Warnocki of Assyria.

So here's those teams :-

Romulus

Augustus
Claudius
Nero
Tiberius Bramble
Hadrian
Marcus Aurelius
Maximus
Probus
Follis-Flavuris
Francis Caligula
Jamar Loza

Manager : Hortonius III

Corinthians

Alcetas
Perdiccas
Orestes
Amyntas
Perdiccas II
Jake Cassidas
Phillip IV
Antigonus II
Alexander III
Jason Demetrus
Deeganus

Manager : Brownouticcus

Venue : Fossettius Farm

Referee : Emporer Kettledrum II

Match of 90 minutes plus extra time, followed by a penalty shoot out and full scale arm wrestling contest at Delphi

No prizes for guessing who'll be organising the defensive walls and who'll be fiddling around at the back.

Incidentally, the Colosseum was build in 7 years less than Ron Martin has so far spent not building Fossetts Farm.

Indeed, RM often says that "Rome wasn't built in a day" to which the answer is "yes, but it didn't take 15 years!"

Ah yes, but the Romans didn't have to deal with Southend Borough Council!

"You can't stick that Collosseum there! Not without adequate services, road infrastructure and taking due care of the neighbouring area and envrionmental impact of the structure, so if you'll just read through this 48 page document and then submit your plans ..... er, put that sword away ... I'm warning you! ... Get your hands off me! .. Lions, what Lions!? .. :scared: !"
