Favourite main characters in TV shows get all the praise - Homer Simpson, Basil Fawlty, Edmund Blackadder, Omar Little, Tony Soprano, Ken Barlow, the list goes on. But what about your favourite 'secondary' characters, those who may only appear in occasional episodes, or who don't always get their names in the credits?

A few to start off with:

Kevin (US Office)

Graham Hitchins (Twenty Twelve)

Are we counting Bodie as secondary?

Dwight's cousin Mose is also a comedic titan.

River Song.
Villa in Blakes 7, cravenly git but I always warmed to him.
Starbuck from either Battlestar Galacticas.
Mad Murdoch from The A Team.
Father Jack from Father Ted.

Bodie was the one who came immediately to mind for me.

Cheese was also a strong contender.

Thing I like about The US Office's secondary characters is that they were largely writers of the show and were hugely influential in the direction it eventually too, which by halfway through season two was an altogether different and ultimately better direction than the original.

Newman from Seinfeld.
almost every single character in Seinfeld for that matter. Each are so well developed, even the bit part actor like the Soup Nazi, or Vanya the Polish relative. Seinfeld for me is by far the best thing ever from American TV I Have experienced.

Yep, genius TV.

Light years ahead of almost anything made in the UK ever.
