Question Ferguson’s Goal

So, that goal last night. Has there ever been a better goal scored by a Southend player, and if so what was it? I cannot think of one in my 45 years.

I’m expecting this to be a very a short thread.

I am a big fan of Ricky Otto v Barnsley.

Mooney's first goal against Oxford in the 6-1 victory under Judas Fry is one of the best goals I've ever seen for any team. The flying volley that ended the move isn't even the best part - Otto Cruyff-turns a defender on the half way line, beats several players down the left wing before putting in a pin point cross for Mooney to volley home spectacularly. An amazing goal from one of the best SUFC performances of all time.

Certainly the best long range shot.

Some of the goals during the fry and tilly eras were works of art from the team. Freddys debut goal is still the perfect example of how to attack from a kick off. No f's given lol

It's hard to explain.

Freddie's goal vs Man Utd had that sense of occasion and magic that made it special. Objectively Ferguson's goal is probably the better, but as supporters a 3-1 win vs FGR isn't going to be remembered and cherished like the time we beat Man Utd.

April 1988 v Wigan, David Crown scored one of the best goals I have ever seen, very similar distance to Ferguson’s. Martin Ling I seem to remember also scored a cracker that night. Added to that we came back from 0-2 down to win 3-2, Shame there was only about 3000 at the hall to see it.

Whilst a great goal and occasion, I would argue the keeper could have done better. No such excuse last night.

Best ever Southend team? I think so. The empty East Stand is sad to see in that video - never got the attendances the team deserved back then.
