Haven't seen a mention of this so i thought I would voice my disgust: Whilst walking back to our car on Sat after the game my friend and i having lost touch with the rest of our group including my 53 year old father were attacked by seven or eight Grimsby "lads".  We were walking back and a northern lad approached me and claimed to be a Grimsby lad and asked if we were Southend.  I replied that I was indeed a Southend fan but I was just walking down the road to my car, he then spat on my firend and called his other mates across the road after doing so we were then faced with seven or eight nutters who continued to "shout lets have it!" My friend was then punched and kicked and whilst we tried to defend ourselves it was to no avail.  The police arrived and pinned my friend to the wall and after various plea's and requests from other SUFC fans to let him go he was relaesed.  The said Grimsby "Lads" then continued up the road towards the pub and started again.  I would like to say a big thanks to the one or two SUFC fans who aided us in the break up of this incident.  I spoke with the police and was again abused and told to "f*ck off home".  I was threatened with a baton and also attacked by these idiots from GTFC.  My days of this are over but how do an aledged Grimsby firm walk down the road without police escort and attact the Southend Firm (ha ha) all two of us and the police do nothing, not even arrest the mad coke head who started it.  Whilst it did not really effect me as I have with my own admission been invoved with incidents over the years I am sure the young kids and familys around were petrified!

Sorry to hear about that. Was a weird atmosphere walking back to the car - something was in the air - and it wasnt the heavy rain and storms.

I got approached by 4-5 seperate Grimsby fans and every one wanted to shake my hand and wish me good luck/unlucky etc. I then saw a lot of trouble kicking off too and when I got back to the car to meet my mates, they said they were nearly involved in all the trouble at the pub.

Looking back, I was very lucky I think cos these fans that were coming up to me were all bigger than me and ****ed, so could have easily grabbed my hand and hit me with the other one. I was so numb walking back that I guess i didnt register what was going on.

The police around that area are an absolute disgrace anyway and SUFC should make an official complaint to the FA about the actions of GTFC and the policing policy...

wasn't nice at all, by the time they reached the pub it was all over to be honest but the police had so many oppertunities to prevent this especially when they witnessed a very obvious assualt. But still who am i kidding this was the police after all and how often do they get it 100% right.

Reading between the lines it is nice to commend you and other SUFC fans for acting appropriately. There is enough trash in football and it would be nice if our fans were not contributing to it. If the Grimsby team had scrapped so hard on the pitch they would not have had their miserable, pitiful season. Head up mate, at least our team will do the talking for us.

Ron Martin should ask for a refund. What did his money actually pay for regarding extra policing?

Does my head in this kind of stuff.  There is no place for this fighting in football - people try and relate it to the game when all it is an excuse to act thuggish.  Anyone that attaches themselves to a "firm" are morons and are scum.  Attacking helpless fans not interested in fighting is pathetic and I hope they rot in hell.  I just hope our club does everything it can to stop any idiots of this calibre attaching themselves to SUFC.

This also seems to highlight the very poor policing that was so evident throughout the afternoon.  The fiasco at the end was caused because they were so keen to stop the Southend fans moving out of their seats, whilst the Grimsby fans were on the pitch.  Disgraceful.

I had some ginger grimsby nutter come up to me before the game looking for trouble.

I was walking with my brother & 11 yr old son past the pub where i assume the trouble kicked off later and this ginger bloke ( no offence to gingers
biggrin.gif
) started spouting "do ya think southend are going up? are they Fcuk. fckging this & that". The bloke was obviously ****ed by one o'clock.

I'm not the sort to go for trouble (esp with my lad with me) we just walked past and this bloke then started on the group behind us.

hopefully he found someone later in the day prepared to give him a slap.

there were little pockets of stone island-clad people en route to the car after the game- at one point there was a group of 7 on the other side of the road whilst one drunken bloke was running up to cars and abusing drivers.

very unpleasant atmosphere and no need for it.

i'm very sorry to hear about that, it is a total disgrace, and these yobs should be arrested banned and sent down, especially if you were with your dad, and spitting is absolutley disgusting, and the whole thing is unaccepctable,

I saw the aftermath of the trouble by the pub. However, as I was walking out of the ground with my mate we were walking along the by the sea wall. In front (about 5 yards) of us there were 2 Blues fans, husband and wife I'd say, in their 50's, and walking in the other direction towards them were 2 Grimsby Town ladies, with scarves, of probably a similar age. I have no idea what they said as they walked past the blues fans, but much to my amazement the husband turned around and shouted an obscenity at them that I didn't catch but it ended with "Gobsh*tes". It was all rather surreal as I would not have expected that sort of behaviour from a Blues fan of his age but then I also wouldn't have expected ladies of their age saying anything that could possibly provoke such a reaction in the first place.

I must say I never encountered any GTFC fans that spoke to me so can't comment on whether they were nice or nasty.

Bizarre.

The Police were a joke.
As we were heading into a shop after the game to get some drink for the journey home, a Police van was sitting outside with the door wide open and about 6 Policemen just sitting there looking glum. One of my entourage made a remark about sitting on their arses but not doing anything about stopping fans going on the pitch. Next thing we know, they jumped out the van, grabbed the said person around the neck, dragged him to one side, shoved him up against a wall and were quite abusive to him. We were shocked.
As we walked away minding our own business, we spotted a lone Policeman just standing there on his own. So we went over and calmly asked him how we would go about making a complaint. He then told us to 'f**k off' and he said, and i quote 'why would i want to help you lot?'.
Disgrace.

Saw them, all stereotypically fat and shaven headed. I have my doubts that they had actually been to the game - just local nutters aware that there would be a large contingent of "away" supporters.

However, there was no police presence in this vicinity, and they - the thugs - were effectively cordoning off one of the side streets where Southend fans parked.

Frankly, the police operation during and post-match was pathetic. Prior to the game, I would give them a great deal of credit, as they were friendly and co-operative, but for some reason this all went to ****.

Money back please Grimsby, one cheque payable to Mr R. Martin!

Did you take their numbers?

That just about sums it up!! Really thought the Grimsby supporters would be in good spirits i think this all comes down to them just not liking people from down South, taking into account the attitude of the police and other select people north of the border they just were not interested.

well, atleast if we don't go up, with can give them some Southend treatment when they come down to us, i think we should give them, some of there own medicine, they are a disgace

We did for the lone Policeman, the second guy that didn't wanna help and told us to f**k off. But not for the morons who jumped us.

no wonder the Grimsby fans are liek they are, when police are meant to be good citizens and role models, thats why Grimsby fans are w***ers, despite having a sh*t hole ground!!

That would just make us as bad as them. And you can guarantee that the types of Grimsby 'fans' that were starting trouble are not the type to come down to away games. I doubt they even know half the players names.
