Film remakes

Running on from Rusty's 20 fave films, I've noticed a number of films that have been remade by Hollywood, mostly unneccessarily or very badly - notably The Italian Job, Alfie, Get Carter, most of the Asian horrors such as Ringu and Dark Water.

Can anyone think of a remake that is actually better than the original?

Assault on precinct 13?

Thought the remake ****ed all over the origional

Disturbia?. Remake of Hitchcock's 'Rear window'. Never seen the origional, but find it hard to imagine it's better than Disturbia

Mean Machine? remake of The longest Yard. Mean Machine is one bad mother****ing film!!

Also the American remake of The Longest Yard, cleverly titled 'The Longest Yard' starring Adam Sangler is better than the origional

The Nutty Professor? Can't believe the 1963 origional could be better than Eddie Murphy's outting!

Oceans 11. Never seen the origional, but would have to be brilliant to beat the remake

And also......

POSSIIBLY THE GREATEST REMAKE OF ALL TIME.......

Brian De Palma's 1983 version of Scarface starring Al Pacino.

Never seen the 1932 origional, but surely nowhere near as good

Disturbia?. Remake of Hitchcock's 'Rear window'. Never seen the origional, but find it hard to imagine it's better than Disturbia

Ahem I doubt it! Rear Window is a classic, and I sincerely doubt Disturbia (which I've never even heard of) is a patch on the Hitchcock masterclass.
