Been taking my son to Southend since Nov 13. We usually go to one home Saturday game per month, And we enjoy this time we have together. I was wondering about taking him to an away game. Any recommendations? I was thinking Millwall since the game we had with them early last year was electric. But would it be too intimidating for him? He is only 10.

Gone are the days of the Old Den, Millwall is not very intimidating at all these days, especially if you travel by coach. Even if you go by train, away supporters are segregated from home ones on the walk to the ground. Best one for atmosphere though, will undoubtedly be Colchester away on Boxing Day!

There is a tunnel that goes directly from the train station to the away end so you are safe. But when you hear the panic in the voices of the police about getting out of the ground before they let 'them' out - personally I'd take him to Coventry - big away day that a lot of people will embrace and without the sense of having to stand your ground.

Hi Russell,

I remember when I first starting taking my son it was one game a month.

If you live locally the easiest way are the Travelzone coaches, when all the hard work is done for you and you would be made more than welcome and made to feel at home from the outset.

Take him and teach him the above... valuable lesson in live.

I'm looking at taking my son to a few away games this season too. The Colchester away game is obviously high on the list, but with it being Boxing Day makes it difficult for me family wise.

The Coventry game sounds a good shout though...
