Colin Murphy was furious, as he wanted to sign Steve Jones from Billericay, who went on to be signed by West Ham. Vic won the battle of wills as usual. The echo then got banned from Roots Hall over it, as they thought Murphy was right, and after all, he was the manager. Vic then decided to sue the echo over it, but then backed down. History shows that Vic was right about Collymore.
