Football is DEAD

I am gutted, i cannot get over the fact that leon wanted three times his wages.

Obviously i wish him all the best and can understand why he left He does not love the game he loves the cash why do kids want to become footballers nowadays, because they see there idols chasing a big fat pay check and not loyalty.

When i was a kid money was not an issue we ran around the park wanting to be on the hallowed turf of Wembley, dreaming of walking up those steps to collect that silver trophy after scoring the winning goal. But it was only a game of cuppy (maybe known as new contracty now)

I am disappointed in Leon, My 7 year old Daughter will be devastated when she finds out, She has his name on her shirt.

How do you explain that he has gone to another club.

Any ideas let me know

One of two things (or perhaps both) is happening here.

Either he was on a ridiculously low wage last season or Fat Fry is paying him well over the odds.

(Assuming this three times wages is true)

I don't think the three times his wages is true. He appreciated being given the chance by us. Doesn't sound like Leon at all.

I agree with you.

I dont think Leon owes us anyting at the end of the day im sure we all knew it was gonna happen. He done a lot for us this season ie. save us from relegation!

Good luck to him

Anothing i dont think he was earning £500 a week it must have been less than that. Why would southend pay him £500 a week when they didn't know much about him. I think he was earning about £350 so if he was earng that and asked for triple den it's not that bad, only £1050 a week.

The source of this figure is a comment made by Steve Tilson on the official site :

""He wanted three times the amount he was on last season but we weren't prepared to pay that."

I was informed by a reliable source quite a while ago that leon was on £500 a week (plus £50 per goal) now if he indeed wanted 3 times more , then this would make him almost the top wage earner at the club , in my opinion for him to want similar wages to someone like maher is ludicrous , kev is our longest seving player and has remained loyal to the club over the years despite receiving better offers from other clubs , it's loyalty like that which should be rewarded with a pay increase and should not be given to a player that has produced one good season of football in his career.

Ok, but do you blame. He only has a couple years in the game left he need to make the most out of it. Ok, so what he asked for is a bit much but who wouldnt try to push their luck.

Leon is only 26 , so he's got a fair few years left in him yet , it's hardly like he's trying to get one last payoff is it?

well he is hardly 18 and got a full football carrer ahead of him.
