Football league suspended until April 4th

Interesting article here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51873519 especially the part about going into administration beneficially. S'all a bit of a minefield but there's a lot of clubs out there that'll be in the same boat as SUFC in varying degrees that this might, just might, actually help.

Yes very interesting- I didn't realise Blackpool went into administration and avoided a deduction- so the deduction is if the administration is the result of financial mismanagement..

Realistically with the EFL working with Prem and Gov find a way of helping the clubs financially, including tax deferrals or they will have to accept clubs putting themselves into administration in numbers that will render points deductions commonplace.

This is where the EFL needs to be spending its time- focused on the physical and financial health of players and clubs. Not fantasising that this season will complete- its gone..

Won't the deciding factor, or a major part of it, be the figures of new infections and isolation happening as April starts. If, as is expected, the numbers are rising then the leagues won't kick off will they?
And then the FA will make further postponement with an end date beyond which cancellation of the competions would become more probable.

The part I’m finding most interesting in all of this now is

The players have been paid. He would not of paid the players had he NOT had the money to pay HMRC first.

As paying the players also makes more tax liabilities to be paid.

By whom?

It has earlier been mentioned that the players were paid yesterday? CP could just phone a couple and confirm? Was hoping that someone from the ITK team could confirm either way? Not an unimportant matter?

I believe they have been paid 70% of their wages, by the PFA. That’s it.

Happy to be corrected.

This may or may not be controversial, but IMO having a 3 week break now might actually be pretty sensible.

The incubation period for this virus is 4-5 days, and most people (certainly young, fit footballers) will be over it in a week. So that's about 1.5 weeks. Add double that for contingency and that's your 3 weeks. At that point almost all the players will have either had it and recovered, or won't have had it at all. (Yes, I know they could catch something from the wider population if they don't self isolate, but a bit of common sense would minimise that risk too.)

If at that stage there are still issues in the rest of the country (which is almost 100% certain) then play the matches behind closed doors. If the odd player is ill at that point, then so be it. Squads often have to self isolate when one or two come down with colds or the flu and this would be no different.

Some folks are probably in more danger from suffocation under their collapsing mountain of toilet rolls and pasta than from Covid-19..........

The players still need to go out shopping etc so even after that period they are still succeptible to the virus
