Football manager 2010

I'm absolutely ****ing furious. First I find out that the review version cuts out after a year, costing me nearly 24 hours gameplay with Newcastle United and now...

I bought myself a proper copy and started again with Liverpool. I spent hours, literally hours, sorting out the coaching, the scouting, the reserves, the youth team, the tactics. Everything. I've been taking every game seriously and, as a result, I was top fo the table with 9 wins from 10 games, with 3 from 3 in Europe. And then I played Chelsea in the Carling Cup.

To cut a long story short, I was 1-0 up until the 90th minute when they equalised. They went 2-1 up in extra-time, but we pulled back level and it went to penalties. I won 7-6 with Lucas, of all people, nailing the winning spot-kick. Happy with my work, I clicked continue and that's when the nightmare started.

The first message up was John Terry congratulating Ancelotti on his team-talk. That seemed odd, you know, given that they'd lost. Then the Liverpool fans told me that they were livid at losing to their arch rivals...

I went to the fixture screen to check and apparently I'd lost the shoot-out 2-4. I clicked on the highlights and watched the shoot-out again. I won 7-6. I counted the goals myself. Apparently not though. Apparently, I'm out of the cup. 2-4.

Things like this really, really **** me off. If I'm going to take a game seriously and invest time and energy into it, I need it to be capable of the basics, like remembering who won the ****ing game!

Now, you might think that I'm over-reacting, but what if this happens again. What if I'm in the Champions League Final and it goes to penalties? What do I do then? If you can't trust the game, you can't play the game.

I'm going back to 2007. I trust 2007.

That's been going on for the last few versions Slip! Had it happen to me on one of the older versions, only it was the other way round. I lost a league cup game on penalties, but after the game it said i had won the spot kicks 4-2! Think it may have been the 2008 version, i would have thought they would have sorted it out by now!! It's not quite as bad when it works in your favour though ;)

It is infuriating when that happens. You always play on, with a certain amount of fear, feeling it will happen again. I have already had one 'crash dump'. Luckily it was right after a save.
Slipperduke, have you applied patch 10.1 yet?

Anway, it has taken me a while to get used to the new skin, but it is an improvement on the last version.
Just as addictable as always. One thing, I read above how Moussa is doing the business. For me, he wanted to leave almost straight away. Got 750k from Coventry. My other difference is Barnard. I just cant get him to do the business like many people above me have. What is the best striker option for him?

SUFC Turkish Delight

I am proud to present my first edit for Football Manager 2010

SUFC - Turkish Delight

On Monday 4th May 2009 Ron Martin decided to sell Southend United football club to Ahmet Zorlu who is the 7th richest Turkish businessman in the world here is a profile on Mr Zorlu.....

turkey_6.jpg

Ahmet Zorlu

Age: 62
Fortune: Self-made
Source: Electronics, finance
Net Worth: $1.8 billion
Country of Citizenship: Turkey
Residence: Istanbul, Turkey
Industry: Diversified
Marital Status: Married, 1 child

Morphed a bed-linen manufacturer into Turkey's largest exporter. His Zorlu holding company encompasses 65 businesses in consumer electronics, financial services and energy. Once bankrupt, his private-label TV maker and distributor Vestel today commands 26% of the European market. In 2006 sold his private bank, Denizbank, to Belgian Dexia for $2.4 billion; now searching for new investments. High school dropout shuttles around Europe in custom-designed helicopter.

He also brings onto the board his son Hassan Zorlu and business associates and part investors Adan Dogan and British born Saffet Khan.

You will be pleased to know Geoff King was removed with immediate effect by Ahmet Zorlu after failing to issue an apology to fans after a vigilante group calling themselves 'warchest investment movement' stormed the East Stand during a friendly match and beat defenceless woman and children.

On leaving Geoff King had this to say "I was told the warchest group were here on police information and we already warned fans via the website but the ticket office were told not to sell tickets to people with obviously buffed up permed blond hair... so why should I apologise?"

As for the edit due to the hype amongst Southend fans Morale is up to 16 from 14 and reputation is up to 4000 from 3850.

Also increased season ticket sales will now rise to around the 7000 mark as our support grows with the news of the takeover - Fossets Farm still goes ahead as planned.

Mr. Zorlu has injected 30m into SUFC and given the new manager 12m to spend on players with a 1m wage budget to aid this. Mr Zorlu has within that 30m injected 6m of his own personal funds thus 26k per month loan goes back to him.

Time for some TURKISH DELIGHT?

I'll be finishing my first season today, so I'll post up a report then... I have just masterminded a 3-2 away victory over Charlton, a task made all the more difficult by being 1-0 and a man down after 10 minutes, Kyle Bartley seeing red. The clincher? A last minute Own Goal by none other than Nicky Bailey.

Sweet.

dream start to this season, sitting 9 points clear at the top of the league with 10wins and 1draw from first 11 games.

Here is a summary of my 1st season & a few stats;

Well, I finished 7th last season... Narrowly missing out on the Play-Off's after losing to Southampton on the final day. I'm confident of going up this coming season though, as I've finally some room to maneovure my squad. M'Voto won't be returning, I grew impatient of his nonsense by September. Godwin Antwi might as well just be referred to as God, bought on a free and is now worth 750k, whilst Barrett remains at the heart of my defence, worth a solid £1.1m.

I picked up a youth by the name of John Guidetti after his release from Man City, someone who's showing an awful lot of promise with a sky-rocketting value. I'd thoroughly recommend Kyle Bartley on loan from Arsenal... Him and Barrett forged a mean partnership in defence last season.

Season 1 summary:

Results:
League One - 2nd
FA Cup - Round 3 (lost v Fulham)
League Cup - Round 2 (lost v Wigan)
JPT - Winners

Ins: (18k)
Oliver Bernard (0k), Mamadou Seck (0k), Godwin Antwi (0k), Luka Senicanin (0k), Gary Frewen (0k), Flavien Belson (0k), Gifton Noel-Williams (Austin - 18k)

Outs: (110k)
Grant (Sheffield United - 70k), O'Keefe (Dag & Red - loan), Sankofa (Yeovil - 40k)

Summary: Slow start resulted in two draws, a loss and two wins from the first five but improved after beating Leeds 2-0 at Roots Hall. Highlight of the season; beating the scummers 4-1 at RH on Boxing day or beating the scummers 3-0 at the lego brick stadium with Barney scoring an amazing hat trick! Winning the JPT, beating Huddersfield 2-1 in the final, was pretty good. We were unlucky not to win the league, losing out by 2 points to Charlton (who we drew 1-1 and beat 1-0), were unlucky to get knocked out of the League Cup too; Wigan scoring at the start of extra time after equalising to make it 1-1 in injury time. Also beat Kidderminster and Bournemouth before being outclassed by Fulham in the FA Cup. Good season but a bit more luck could have made it a hell of a lot better.

Top scorer: Lee Barnard - 32 goals (46 apps)

Profit/Loss: PROFIT - £1.3m

Aim next season: Consolidate in the Championship, hopefully bring in some new players while keeping Barney and Mildy who has been wanted by Forest all season, Barney's signed a new contract until 2011 but that often means nothing in the world of football. I've set a personal target in my head of about 16th, any lower could result in a relegation battle but hopefully we won't be involved in that.

Not got it yet (trying to focus on some Uni work before I lose my life to FM again) but thinking of going halves with a mate from Uni soon. Can you install it on more than one computer like FM09?

So, I'm in the middle of preparing for my second season, and who should turn up in one of the Academy Teams of released players? Dorian Dervite. So he was snapped up on a free, along with Wayne Brown. I loaned Coquelin from Arsenal and splashed 200k on John Oster, who's working wonders down the right flank. I've switched to a 4-4-2 wide diamond formation, with Coquelin occupying a DMC role, Moussa on the left, Oster on the right and Brown behind Barnard and Guidetti.

Guidetti is simply amazing. He has 4 goals in 5 games, which isn't bad at all for an 18 year old in his first full season and is responsible for my 5 straight wins and my assault up the league table.

Well, I've finally started a save on the full version of the game, having reluctantly held back until I had done some uni work. And having identified some players in the demo, I was able to ruthlessly wheel and deal when I started the game to get around the fact that there was no money to spend.

As soon as I took control, I identified the players who were getting interest and offered them for sale. That was Grant and Barrett. I offered them to clubs for £110k and £425k respectively. P'boro offered for Grant and got him immediately and both Plymouth and Notts Co. offered for Barrett, with Notts Co. getting him in the end. I also offered Freedman for sale (£3k off the wage bill) and Exeter bought him.

Whilst selling these players and freeing up wage budget, I started acquiring my free transfers. Once I started to run out of availabale wage budget, knowing that I wouldn't be spending any more money on transfer fees (apart from £24k on Eckersley), I altered the budgets. I reduced my transfer budget from £450k to £100k, and allocated those funds to the transfer budget which gave me an extra £4k per week to play with and got me 2 more free transfers in.

So my transfer window is now over and here are my ins and outs. Delighted with my work. Gone £1k over my weekly transfer budget but I can deal with that.
