I've just started a research project looking at whether Britain is regressing to a less civil state with less social constraint and more casual aggression. The questionnaire has just gone live at http://www.topfan.co.uk and as you’ll see, the questions are very current. Is British society going through what sociologists would refer to as a de-civilising trend? Have your say in the survey and thanks in advance.

I think that all this 'folk devils and moral panics' malarkey has been around ever since the mods and rockers rucks in the early sixties. The golden age of casual violence at footy in Blighty was in the seventies, though it did become more organised in the eighties.

I don't know what a de-civilising trend is but if a sociologist tipped up at my local and started handing out questionnaires he would more than likely find his theories being subjected to rigorous peer review by a pair of Reebok classics in the car park.
That said I have no problems with a polite request made on an internet forum and have duly completed said questionnaire.
