From The Financial Times:

In a written ministerial statement on Thursday, Dorries said: “The primary recommendation of the review is clear, and one the Government chooses to endorse in principle today: that football requires a strong, independent regulator to secure the future of our national game.”

Some of you may remember Nadine Dorries, who once got her theepenny bits out on I'm a Celebrity. She is now apparently our culture secretary. Funny old world aint it?

Anyway, it will be interesting to see how this develops.

Nadine Dorries yesterday said that Channel 4 should have stronger government regulation because they receive government funding from the license fee. This was a slightly baffling statement given that Channel 4 doesn't receive any public funding whatsoever. Hopefully she's done a bit more research on football otherwise the regulations she wants to bring in are going to come from a position of ignorance.

I hadn't noticed the Channel 4 bit. Possibly she thinks that appointing a regulator for every aspect of culture is the way forward.

At least that way the regulator can be blamed rather than anyone in government when nothing actually gets regulated.
