Fossetts Farm Stadium in doubt

I really hate all the cynacism re the attendances.

First off we can comfortably get 8000 at home now which is about a 100% increase on I dont know 4/5 years ago.

Roots Hall as much as we love it is a pretty basic stadium. The club cannot ever hope to grow at Roots Hall. The ground would be the laughing stock of league one.

A new stadium will attract new fans drawn in by the facilities - I for one might be more tempted to bring my daughter/wife if there were better women and kids facilities.

More important than that it will bring new wealth from commercial opportunity than Roots Hall ever can. Increased commercial means spending more on the players ans a better side = more fans.

When I was a kid Reading, Swansea etc were all our size. Now they have both left us behind and the common factor is stadium.

Imagine if we could actually afford to keep the likes of Harding, Dervitte, HRK etc etc. We would be able to add a few thousand on the gate almost straight away.

Am I right in thinking that Madjeski paid for Reading's new stadium and handed them the keys when he went, with them owing him nothing and Swansea's ground was paid for by their Council and they rent it?

I think you are right about Reading, don't about Swansea.
Though it doesn't negate DtS argument about their growth in attendances following new stadiums

Hmmm both Reading/Swanseas crowds are decreasing and both clubs currently hover in or around the relegation zone.Southampton with their huge 30000 stadium lie bottom of league 1 and are facing serious threat of league 2,Leeds with their history and 36000 stadium have hit bad times in recent years,Charlton and their 26000 stadium suffered successive relegations and Norwich are now plying their trade alongside us,Millwall are lucky if their ground is half full whilst Wigans ground was only 70% full even though the visitors were Man United.

I could go on and on but very little point because some of you have been seduced by the lavishness of FF.Wonder how much the rent will be if we ever play their.

stay at the hall then? dont think its worth it despite the risk involved? our finances arent exactly flourishing at the mo! even with the severe mocking of the withdean yesterday you cant help but notice the falmer stadium being built on the way out of brighton. I travelled with a few albion fans although they lost they know that within a few years they will be facing a different future.

Ok, I dont really understand your arguement i thought we were talking about new stadia and attendances yet you seem to have introduced some gibberish about Leeds and Norwich who havent moved for a long long time !
Reading in 1999 had an average of around 9000 fans, last season that was 19,935 (both in the madjeski stadium)! Swansea in 1999 had an average of 5920 (vetch), last season 15,186 (liberty).
Southampton had an average of 15000 (at the dell and in the 'premiership') in 1999 and 17849 last year (relegated from championship) thats still an increase !
Wigan is a rugby town that tolerates football, if they were ever to play a home game on the same day (impossible i know) but you'd end up with a full house for the rugby and a very poor attendance for the football, so to be honest you cant really include this in the argument.
As for the rent when FF is built (and i thoought you were calling it Ronville or something stupid now ?) The club will again own the stadium and receiving rents from the associated developments so thats not really going to be a worry.
I really feel Blue Shrimp that you have a huge chip on your shoulder and dont want the club to progress or have any ambition. I believe that you would really enjoy it if we were back at the bottom of league 2 with crowds of 3000 so that you could continually moan that we get poor crowds, poor league 2 players etc

Grow up and stop trying to anaylize me which i doubt you are qualified to do.In fullness of time one of us will be proved wrong...It aint gonna be me.

Do we know that for a fact ?

Ron has stated this on a coupe of occasions and he has also said that he would eventually like to give/sell the club to the fans. Mind you he has tried that already and received a very apathetic reaction.

Why don't you try to respond to Weststander's post in a considered manner rather than telling him to grow up?

Maybe if Westanders recent reply did not contain phrases such as "gibberish" or "chip on my shoulder" my response would of been more considered. So here is my sensible response.

RM will own the stadium meaning he will be able to charge any fee he deems fit for rent,Secondly any concerts/events held at the stadium any such profits from such events will possibly go to the stadium owner/owners .If RM had stated in exact terms the club will be rent free for 10/15/20 years..Excellent stuff..Or any money making events the club will recieve x amount toward club funds I would be singing from the rooftops,Yet RM has not stated anything of the kind,Yes he did mention 2 years ago the stradium would be operating 24/7 and the manager will recieve millions but seriously any guy who cannot pay the measly sum of 4k to an ex player..Cannot IMO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY.

WE are currently supposed to pay £400k per year at the moment but Ron hasnt charged us a penny as yet, and we dont know that he is or isnt going to charge rent on the new stadium. In fact he has put lots of money into the club and bought the ground from 3rd parties who could have insisted that rent was paid and thus bankrupting the club. It is not in Rons interest to bankrupt the club it is going to make him money. Ok, so it was 2 years ago that he mentioned that potentially the manager would receive millions towrards his squad, as he has not mentioned it again then surely its because the statement still stands. Ok he hasnt paid Spencer Priors £4k, but then he also hasnt paid the £600+K that we owe the taxman either and i know what i would consider the priority, would people rather pay Spencer off now and be £4k short on paying the tax bill or keep him waiting a bit to ensure the future of the club. Ron has the best interests of the club at heart at the moment because until we move out he's not making or going to make any money.

That just about sums it up for me!

This isn't about scoring points, it is about ambition.

Either you are stuck in the past and happy to plod along in League 1 / 2 or the conference or, you want your club to play and compete against bigger clubs in the higher divisions week in week out.

You can give examples of attendances and of clubs with new grounds who are still in the lower leagues all day long blah blah blah, but everyone knows what we need is a new stadium, a decent management and playing team, higher attendances (only possible with the above) and some luck along the way.

So it doesn't matter who turns out to be right or wrong, and nor should it matter. We have a chairman with the ambition to turn us into a much bigger club. (And yes it should line his pockets too and why not)?

So let's get behind the whole team, inc the board, and stop being so pessimistic and cynical. If only some people on here had half the drive and will to succeed as Ron has, then they would have made a fortune and would own the club outright. Then they could do what they want with it.

Love Ron's Mum...xx

We now have a Casino coming on board. Ron has explicitly stated that the money this brings in will be used to fund the Academy - hardly the action of a man who is purely out to line his own pocket at the expense of the club, is it?

question? does southend need/can cope with another casino? and are there any moral issues to funding a club through gambling?
