Poor old skybet

Lightning struck twice in successive days for one lucky punter as he netted himself more that £500,000 with two football accumulator bets with betting firm Sky Bet.

Incredibly, the gambler wagered only £1,050 overall but was in luck as each of his ten teams delivered in the two separate five fold bets. He even predicted Kaiserslautern to beat fancied Bayern Munich on Friday night and was laughing all the way to the bank as the Bundesliga side ran out 2-0 winners.

The unnamed customer from Hampshire in England landed £250,000 on Thursday night as his £450 five-fold football bet on BATE (3/1), Hapoel Tel Aviv (7/4), Debrecen (7/2), NK Maribor (2/1) and Aktobe (11/4) came in.

And remarkably less than 24 hours later the same punter repeated the feat as his £600 five-fold consisting of Djurgardens (2/1), MTK Budapest (6/4), Kaiserslautern (13/2), Southend (10/3) and FC Erzgebirge (8/13) came in returning another £250,000.

Sky Bet's senior football compiler Mike Triffitt said: "Bookmakers are normally happy when a whole host of short-priced favourites lose but this particular customer excels at lumping numerous outsiders together.

"His luck was in on Thursday as three of his selections were landed by late goals and we paid out £250,000 and hoped that was the end of it.

"On Friday Bayern Munich were all the rage before kick-off and the hosts Kaiserslautern went off as an unfancied 13/2 shots but went on to win 2-0. Couple that with Southend's first away win since last Christmas at Bradford and it turned into a disastrous 24 hours for our traders.

"It's incredible really. To win £250,000 once is amazing - to do it on successive days is every punters' dream," he added.

Earlier this month, the same punter also landed £90,000 as a treble came in.

Blimey. Quite meaty stakes, though (if you'll pardon the pun) - over a grand staked in the space of two days is more than your average punter...

Behind their crocodile tears, SkyBet won't mind too much. They're getting good publicity and if he's the sort of punter who places a £500 a time on accas that pay more than 500/1 then he's exactly the sort of the punter they want to keep. I'd be surprised if he hadn't had a couple of other such bets that had crashed and burned but that doesn't make such a good story.

Although the second bet is funded by the first, If he's regularly staking £400-£600 on outlandish acca's, I'd love to see a personal profit/loss account...

A couple? He can afford to stake that once a day for a couple of years now and still be up!

Makes my £10 Luton - AFC Wimbledon double look a bit lame - especially as they both drew.
