Middlesbrough have had a six-figure offer accepted by Doncaster Rovers for George Friend who played half a dozen games for us on loan in Tilly's last season
Middlesbrough are trawling a lot lower down the football food-chain this summer - they've signed ex-Walsall striker Emmanuel Ledesma and are after Mustapha Carayol from Bristol Rovers.

If I remember correctly, he was the guy who had to strip off at Brighton! Well worth the investment! :winking:

great left sided player 2nd best only to mulgrew i would say, done well for us both of them.

I thought he was rubbish for us if I'm being honest, although I do remember that peach of a freekick he scored against Southampton

It's strange how both Friend and Malone were widely regarded as rubbish and not as good as Johnny Herd when you see how their respective careers have panned out.

Dont seem to remember Friend being widely regarded as rubbish, most people i spoke to thought he was pretty decent. Malone was very poor with us though. He was too young and weak at that point in time.

Must admit my own recollection of discussions on here at the time was many people saying why were signing left backs on loan - Friend, Malone and White from ColU as well I think - when we had Johnny Herd sat on the bench.

Third best loanee left back we had begind Mulgrew and Harding. Thought he was quality. Malone on the other hand.....ugh.
