I was interested to read the Afd leader's comments, who suggested that "the German police should be given a green light to shoot migrants at the border as a last resort."

Funnily enough, I heard someone say something pretty similar at The Billet on my last trip back.

Absolutely not.

Russian and US politics were my specialist subjects back in the day.Though I've always followed modern German politics with interest.

Would you agree then that her Foreign policies have been disastrous (Ukraine, Refugees, Greece etc), and now seemingly wanting to fast track Turkey into the EU.

Would you agree then that her Foreign policies have been disastrous (Ukraine, Refugees, Greece etc), and now seemingly wanting to fast track Turkey into the EU.

im not sure if Merkel really wants Turkey i the E.U,last time i read about Turkey,the German Goverment was against it.The British goverment wanted them in....The German people are very much against Turkey coming in...it would be playing even more into the far-right "hands"...

There is absolutely no getting away from it, Merkel has dropped a big one here. The left can dress it up as best they can but you cannot escape the fact that her incredibly flawed immigration policy has exacerbated and inflamed what was an already tense situation throughout Germany and has given the far right a political platform they could once have only dreamed of.

What I find so astonishing is that many many thousands of ordinary people up and down the country and many influential political figures from across Europe were foretelling what the outcome would be and to a man we were all told we were wrong and that religious integration and free European mobility and settlement of whole swathes of people from totally different social and religious backgrounds would work. Clearly it doesn't and now that the horse has well and truly bolted the EU is caught like a rabbit in the headlights without a clue as to what to do next (just like it didn't know in the first place)

Absolutely not.With regard to your last point, there's no chance whatsoever of Turkey being fast tracked into the EU, any time soon.

We'll see how "Mutti" gets on in the German general elections in 18 months time.My guess, (FWIW), is that if she loses support the Greens will be the net beneficiaries and not the far right.
