Looks like his destination will be the MLS with LA Galaxy and New York FC intrested. If the latter signs him wonder if he will return to premiership next season on loan with someone :winking: Shame though as Gerrard is better than the MLS.

An overrated (but still very good player) who hasn't been able to adapt his style over time, unlike Lampard, Scholes, Giggs etc. No surprise he announced this after scoring a couple of goals, and he's timed his exit just about right - this season is a write-off for Liverpool.

Arguably the most complete midfield player ever to grace the Premier League at his pomp for a few years in the middle of the last decade. Although still good at 34 he clearly is not the player he once was and a move to the States could be a good thing for both him and Liverpool as other players seem to be moved out of their best position to accommodate him in the team. So maybe Galaxy is the most apt option for him as for many years he was simply out of this world for Liverpool.

Always felt that Lampard was better than him and the insistence on playing him cost England. I'm sure the Liverpool acolytes will miss him, better for club than country imho.

Was never fit to lace Lampard's boots

A great player and a huge loss to the English game.

Totally agree. Along with Lampard and Scholes, he was one of the most technically gifted English players of his generation. Real shame that Liverpool just missed out on the title last season as it would've been a fantastic way to end an era.

Will Liverpool look a better team like England do without him?

He played a lot but won nothing with England and famously never won a league title, the real test of consistency and quality at club level. Even at age 36 Frank Lampard is a key player in another title challenge - and that's at a different club. In contrast Gerrard had more finishes outside the top 6 than title challenges whereas Lampard never finished outside the top 6 for Chelsea and still won more FA Cups and punched fewer DJs for not playing Phil Collins than "Stevie G".

Not really sure why people call him overrated, he's deteriorated in quality over the years but that's what old age does to you, not everyone can be a Giggs or a Lampard that can keep playing at the highest level in their mid 30s.

Brendon Rodgers says the word legend doesn't do him justice. No, the problem is that people use the word legend so much that it has lost it's meaning. Like the "top player" tag that Redknapp has branded about so much it has lost meaning and now he has to call someone a "top, top, top player".

Gerrard was a great player and always will be. He will be remembered for his gaffs though.

Fergie famously said that Gerrard wasn't a "top, top player"

Personally speaking, don't think Gerrard would even feature in a top 10 of "best" Liverpool players! Not fit to lace Emlyn Hughes' boots!

That's just crazy talk. He's the only player to score in an FA Cup final, League Cup final, Champions League final and a UEFA Cup final. He dragged a fairly average Liverpool team to numerous trophies. He might not be the best player ever, but he's a Liverpool hero and didn't have the luxury of playing with the Liverpool greats in the 70s and 80s.

No one can win a title on their own though and there's so many different variables which you need to get right to win a league title. Gerrard never won a title, but he once came very, very close to joining Chelsea, where he would most likely have gone on to be a key player in many title wins. His loyalty to Liverpool got the better of him and is something he should be applauded for. Loyalty barely exists in football anymore and it's easy to be 'loyal' to sides like Chelsea and United who will always be winning titles. Bit more difficult to remain loyal to a team who are nearly always written off before a single ball has been kicked.

The fact he never won a title is irrelevant and has no bearing on his ability as a player. Gerrard was special and we'll be hard pushed to find another English midfielder with the same ability as him for some time. The 'promising' midfielders coming through (Wilshere etc.) aren't anywhere close to being in Gerrard's league.

Not exactly difficult to be loyal at Liverpool either. It's not like he was stuck at Rochdale his whole career. He still won plenty of medals and is made for life too.

Never said it wasn't, just that it's a bit more difficult, but I hate it when people suggest he wasn't as good as others mentioned because he never won a title.
