I was watching The Best of "Most Haunted" (I have a thing for the ex-Blue Peter bird and I love it when Derek gets possessed) just the other night. It took me back to when I was about 5 or 6 and I saw a ghost in our old house walking in and out of the bathroom on the landing in the middle of the night. This would seem like a child's fantasy/dream were it not for the fact that we lived in a semi-detatched and the adjoining house was exorcised not long afterwards. It was definitely a spooky house with various weird things going on in the years that we lived there. Sometimes, in my teenage years I would actually wake up in the morning covered in erm....ectoplasm.

Anyway, my question is, has anyone else seen or experienced a ghost? I know David Lee was a bit pale, but no crap footballer anolgies please, this is a serious thread

I just don't believe in ghosts and never will unless I see one for myself or someone I trust implicitly tells me they saw one.

I can totally understand that attitude, it's similar to what I think about religion and God really. I can't prove what I saw and as it was so many years ago and I was so young it's hazy enough for me to have doubts. Weird happenings in that house make me think that there could be something in it though and the exorcism was arranged independently by the people next door.

Sometimes I think the whole afterlife thing is just man's arrogance coming through. Why do we hold oursleves above animals and plants etc (which we assume just live and die) whereas we invent all this "better place" stuff for us like we're the supreme beings, all for the physical fact we have a cerebral cortex in our brains that's a bit bigger than other living beings. Could it not be that we just bullsh!t oursleves into believing there's somewhere else to go when we die because we don't have the balls to face up to the reality of death? That we live, die and rot away like everything else?

This post was brought to you in association with R. McFerrin ltd!

that was my view until a few years back when i didn't see a ghost but more like heard one.

I used to work in hornchurch and drive down the lanes through South Ockendon into the back of hornchurch.

Just before you get to hornchurch there is a junction which joins from your left from behind a large hedge which you can't really see until you are on top of it. I had right of way so was driving along at around 60mph (as usual) as the road was empty. just before the junction someone shouted from inside the car "look out, the white cars not stopping". I instictively jumped on the brakes even though i wasn't quite up to the junction and couldn't even see if there was a car coming from behind the hedge. As i was skidding to a halt a white escort hurtled straight out of the junction in front of me without stopping and i'm convinced if i hadn't braked i would have hit it and probably been killed.

I was thankful for the warning but the only trouble was that i was in the car alone. There was no one to shout the warning to me.

other people i've told this to have told me that the voice must have been in my head and i probably saw the car through the hedge. I don't beleive it was and am totally sure it was my uncle's voice (who was also my godfather) who had died a couple of years before.

A huge shiver has just ran down my spine.

I have 2 stories although one only affected me directly.

1st.

When I was in the forces my first married quarter in Fallingbostel Germany was an old German barrack block. It consisted of one huge corridor with rooms coming off one side of said corridor and a room at each end. My wife never really liked it, the ceilings were very high and when I was away she would 9 times out of 10 stay with friends. Anyway the in-laws came to visit for a week at Christmas and we sat up in the lounge having a few drinks as you do. Around midnight they called it a night and 5 mins later me and the misses locked up and turned in for the night also.
The following morning my father in law questioned how late we had been up drinking after they had gone to bed. When we told him we had followed almost right behind he went white as a sheet. He swore and still does to this day that he got up to go to the loo around 3 am and could see the light under the lounge door and hear people talking with shadows moving around. He has since told us he felt very uncomfatable the whole week in that place. Spooky but I never had any strange feelings myself.

2nd

Driving to work one late afternoon I was in the queue at the lights London bound A127 just past the Tesco roundabout. Something seemed to brush across my head. I instantly put my hand up to the point of contact and upon glancing in my rear view mirror saw the bloke in the car directly behind me do the exact same thing.
Not scary but definitely weird.

my old pal barry the dog looks a bit like a ghost, imagine casper but with his hair on fire and you'll be on the right track
