Anybody out there on the Zone have any goldfish? I've had mine for around 10 months now and yesterday gave the whole tank a good old clean out and I couldnt believe the amount of crap that was in the gravel. Gave the tank abit of a refurbishment and after having a think, I'm interested in getting some snails for the tank as I am getting a fair bit of algae at the front and corners of the tank. My only worry is that these snails are going to go at it like rabbits and produce unlimited amounts of eggs at the bottom of the tank. Does anybody have any goldfish with snails in that could give me afew tips?

dont clean out the tank, just put an air pump in, plenty of weed for food and shelter as well as oxygen, and get a butterfly pleco...that will look after your algae.

How big is your tank and how big is the fish not oncluding fins?

goldfish release a lot of ammonia, which is why you need lots of surface area, extra oxygen and plants, and the more fish u put in, they will suffocate unless you put those measures in.

dont put in snails unless they are apple snails...but be prepared to keep pulling out eggs.

PM me if u nee more help

At least goldfish don't friggin' disappear for months on end!! :)

i'd have gone for Cory's if its a smallish tank . Goldfish produce alot of poo (my beloved has two tanks at the moment and teh Gold fish live with the pleco , but we still needed a couple extra Corys) filters pumps alwasy good.

I have a fish that I won at the Ashingdon carnival fair a few years ago that seems to be getting a bit big for the plastic bag it came in so I am looking for a bigger bag.

Can any fish experts advise if any plastic bag will do or whether I need to purchase one from an aquatic specialist?

Is he outliving the bag and looking a bit like this?

Go for a larger Tesco style bag, but you will have to top up the water on a regular basis due to the little holes at the bottom

i have one goldfish in a small bowl, which has a pump, and it gets cleaned every 1-2 weeks. There used to be two fish, but one made a break for freedom one night when i was out, and i found him the next day down by the side of the table. there was a good inch between the water surface and the top of the bowl too!

problem with Cory's, theyre more a tropical fish, but plecs are adaptable into cold water. ******* loaches can be ok in cold water too. ideally, the chinese butterfly plec for cold water.

if you wanna mix your tropicals and coldwater, get some swordtails...they love the algae and survive in ponds in the summer months
