Grand National, Saturday

Incidentally, if you think there's a lot of office tipsters in a regular office, try working at a betting firm!!

Never ceases to amaze me how many people ask for a tip at this time of year.

Oh right, ask me to pick the winner of a four and a half mile 40 runner handicap, that'll be easy!

I rarely bet on the National, but I'm still yet to back the winner. Now the Derby on the other hand - backed my first winner in that back in 1988 :D

Yeah, it's bizarre. It's almost like asking for some good lottery numbers. I suppose that's why so many people like it. You can be the most clued up Horse racing expert in the world and yet the odds are against you winning on it.

Funnily enough I find it a relatively easy race to pick the winner of - the horse generally needs to have a bit of class about it - although you do get the occasional quirky character coming home first like Last Suspect, Royal Athlete and Little Polveir.

Since 1980 I have backed these winners: Aldaniti (81), Grittar (82), West Tip (86), Maori Venture (87 - backed at 66/1 ante-post), Rhyme 'N Reason (88), Mr Frisk (90), Seagram (91), Party Politics (92), Rough Quest (96), Earth Summit (98) - so I must be due a winner!

I will be backing Bewley's Berry and, depending on the ground, numbersixvalverde.

Oh and James, Laddies Poker One won it's maiden race over in America @8-1. We never even knew it was running :(

I think i'll keep tight lipped to what horse i fancy for the National :p

But i'll give you a clue, his dad won the race on l'escargot and the jockey in question won the champion hurdle this year.

Get on!

Hedgehunter has to win this year. But they reckon the going isn't going to suit the Irish horses....

Lucky I didnt put that bet on now.... :(

Don't even know where Hedgehunter finished.

I had an assortment of about 50 quids worth, including a fiver on Silver Birch, fora nice £170 return.

Unfortunately I also had 30 quid on Southend.

Angus Loughran tips Point Barrow and that's probably going to be good enough for me. Of the rest, I'm quite tempted by Silver Birch but I'd like to see how the track looks before going on that one.

Incidentally, if you think there's a lot of office tipsters in a regular office, try wotrking at a betting firm!!

Well Done that man!

Dont say that too loud over on the Ladbrokes Poker forum! Very touchy subject!

Had Silver Birch in the office sweepstake, which more than made up for my losing bet on Billyvoddan...
