Guys who jumped the wall by the west stand

SUFCFARAWAY

Guest
Just remembered about this. As I was by the west stand, down past the bar, I noticed 6 or 7 blokes jump over the wall and run into the ground. Ok - Thanks for showing your support for the club but jumping into the ground means no money to the club! Everyone else pays for the privelage to watch a great team play great football why couldn't they? If they wanted to watch a free game of footy go watch the SZ Team. Plus 30 seconds after they ran into the ground secuity came round - me assuming they were after the guys who jumped in but instead asked some guy to put his fag out.

Can someone tell me who that actually amnaged to get over this wall and how this can be stopped in future. I advise barbed wiring and snipers!

To be fair mate, you should tell the club where it happened and then they may be able to sort it. I know there will always be ways but you got to try and stop it somehow.

I was walking behind them ppl and the security person clearly saw them jump the fence but only asked to see my ticket and not theirs!!

If people are jumping the wall into the west then the people who owned the house behind must have something to do with it. Whether they can do much depends on who owns the walls behind the west stand....

You should certainly report this sort of thing to the club, though, whether the security do anything or not.

This has now been reported. Don't know what will happen though.

There's an alley beside 1 of the houses i think thats where they have come from. There's always police over by the west why don't they do something as it's right under there noses.

Lets be honest if you wanted to walk into Roots Hall for free each week you could, during Vic's reign at Roots Hall i did exactly that. Roots hall stewards and security is a joke. These people just want there 8 quid and free burger without any hassle. I think the club are very fortunate with the only a small number who do take advantage of this unprofessional running of a football ground.

If people are so worried about it, why dont you sign up to be a steward

when did this happen?
was it at half time or during the game?
or before, coz the back of the stand can get really busy , with everyone out there either smoking or drinking and where i stand its difficult to see through the crowd!!

At about 2.45. Jus saw them jump over and run into the ground. Didn't really see their faces or anything. Jus know there was about 6 or 7 of them. Maybe there were just really dedicated fans who couldn't afford the tickets so instead decided to risk arrest in order to see their beloved team.

the security and stewards are not a joke and you would be very lucky if you get in every week for nothing, if you have a problem with how they run things ,then i suggest you complain to the club about it instead of posting it on a message board, if you used to jump the wall ,then its obvious you had no wish for the club to overcome their financial problems during that era!!
the one thing most of us stewards dont do is turn a blind eye, if i'd seen 6 or 7 blokes jump over a wall into the ground, i'd a made sure that they were escorted straight back out!!

Yes that is a problem , coz its usually quite packed round there at that time and i'm the only steward in that area, i also had three gates out the back to watch as well, so i'll try and get some more staff out there to stop it happening again for future games!!

Looking at it more lightheartdly, in the past people have been jumping over the wall to get out of Roots Hall now they are jumping over it to get in. Things must be on the up.

You sound like a steward whos dedicated to he's task. If only there were more like you

The post above shows your total misunderstaning of what the club was going through at that time.

After what I saw on Sunday the stewards are Jokes par a couple who are actually alright but the majority are morons who couldn’t even get a security job at a sweet shop!

mad.gif

The employment of stewards is the responsibility of the stadium manager (currently Dave Jobson). He has been known to take anyone on without interview or assessment, so you are right... unless someone vets these guys before employing them, it is very likely that some will not make the grade to the annoyance of some fans.

Why is it that some of you prefer to be insulting by saying that stewards and security are morons though? The Watcher and I have both got Football Stewarding Qualifications (FSQ) and we do our jobs, often in difficult circumstances. We are aware that some of you don't like us and you are welcome to your opinions on that score, but we aren't morons!!!

SUFCFARAWAY: If you had spoken to a steward or a member of security about the issue when it happened, something COULD HAVE BEEN DONE there and then. I don't know your reasons for not doing so, but right now it is too late to take any action.

Whoever these guys were, they aren't clever and probably aren't true supporters, but at least we can monitor this at the next home game.

I think the first point is the weakest link approach on which basis these same people suggesting the majority are morons would also measure the quality of SUFC via Ché Wilson.

On the second point I can picture the scene as SUFCFAR points out the alleged perpetrators to a steward. Result, 6 or 7 people evicted and 1 in hospital.

the word i think you may be looking for, is "Jobsworth"

at the end of the day this is silly, why not jump the walls?
the club have f%&ked every single one of you over for your money many a time.
I personally pay my money and be done with it,
whether i choose to stand, shout abuse or whatever, i paid my money so i paid for this so called "privelage"
Sunday was a disgrace. The new rulings regarding standing is a joke, 4 match ban.. well they know that they can do with that!
the people who "jump" cannot be arrested, as i severely doubt there is such an offence that relates to not paying at a football game
