Post-Match Thread and Ratings GWR v Southend United - Tuesday 20 July

I'm amazed that people have such high expectation and it seems they don't understand the purpose of these friendlies. They are helpful in getting match fitness levels up, they are useful for trialists to show us what they can bring. They are not the be-all-and-end-all of the season ahead, or even an indicator of what we can expect in the season ahead. We have had quite reasonable pre-seasons games in the last 2 years...and look at what happened. Let Phil and his colleagues do their stuff, see what they need to see, so we can keep players we need, and move others on that we don't. I hope it's a good game...but that is the icing rather than the cake.

I’ve heard Coulson and Murphy are out injured. So could be line up of Seadon, Demi, White, Hobson, Clifford, Bridge, Ogogo, Dunn, Atkinson, Rush, Trialist

Missing this one unfortunately as both my boys are working.

For those wanting to know about parking, it's always the same, unless you're getting there really early, don't try and park in the main car park but take the turning for Little Wakering Road, then I think you turn into Coronation Close and drive through the gate at the end onto the park. It's never a problem unless it's been absolutely persisting down.

Don't forget your mozzy spray though, they're always in abundance there!

Always enjoy a balmy midweek evening friendly at GW, and with pretty much a whole season away from Roots Hall I'm actually quite excited about seeing the team tonight. Dragging along my cousin's son (Brentford supporter) who's just moved down from London. This will be his first ever taste of non-league football.

It all about getting fitness levels up. Normally the squad for the first few friendlies are playing 45 mins per game, then 60 mins in one game, 30 mins the next, then the full 90?

We have GWR tonight but have WH U23 Friday and Maidstone Sat.

Does anyone know whether one of these will be a much weaker squad, or pretty even with no-one playing more than the 45? Don't suppose many will play both?

I was planning to go to the Maidstone game but might not if we are just sending an u23s. Although odd to send first team squad to GWR then U23 to Maidstone who are Conference South

Isn't it about supporting GWR with our first team turning out ?

Might well be- but we have the following day a game against a decent Conference S club. In a higher division. And in not billed by Maidstone as U23 or Southend XI
So assume many of squad will go to both and slot minutes between the two even if on consecutive days.

I'm pretty sure it's cash only but anyone know if card payments are accepted in the bar?
