FC Halifax Town Manager Chris Millington talks to Halifax Courier before their game against Southend United

Town boss Chris Millington says his side will be hungry to get a result when they face Southend tomorrow (Tuesday) night.

The Shaymen were very unlucky to be on the losing side against Torquay on Saturday, and are still looking for their first victory of the campaign having also lost to Barnet on the opening day of the season.

"We've got to look at the bodies, look at the condition of them,” said Millington on Tuesday's game.

"One of the other things we've got to recognise is they've put in such a wonderful performance in really testing conditions, with the temperature and the size of the pitch at The Shay, it couldn't be more challenging for them.

"So we'll have to assess where everybody's at, but I think they'll be hungry to go out and do the same again, and get the result this time."

Southend United’s head coach Kevin Maher

Kevin Maher insists his players will have to be at their best to come away from The Shay with three points tonight despite FC Halifax Town’s slow start to the season.

The Shaymen are still looking to register their first point and are yet to score in either of their two games so far against Barnet and Torquay United.

After coming from behind against Solihull Moors on Saturday, the Blues boss expects his players to go into the game with confidence.

Referring to the 1-1 draw, Maher said: "I’m delighted with how the players have applied themselves.

"When you look at what’s not in the squad as well, you can see where we want to get to in time.

"I'm really pleased with everyone but it’s another tough one at a place that is notoriously difficult to go."

Blues were on the end of a 3-1 defeat on their last visit to face tonight's opponents almost 12 months ago, under former Manager Phil Brown.

Facing another team early on into the season that reached last season's play-offs, Maher knows it will be a tricky test.

“Having watched their game at the weekend against Torquay, they [FC Halifax Town] can consider themselves very unlucky not to get something from it. They would’ve come away from that disappointed.

“The number of chances they had they could've scored and if wasn’t for the goalkeeper, on another day they could’ve won the game.

“Having watched them, we know where we think we can impose our game onto them, and I’m sure they’ll be doing the same to us.

“It’s another journey for us but one we’re going into positive. We believe in the players we have at this football club and whoever pulls on the shirt will be ready.

“We look to build on Saturday’s point going into the game.”

Team News

The Blues boss doesn't expect any absentees to return in time to face the Shaymen.

Gus Scott-Morriss has been running and is hopeful of returning to training later in the week.

Tom Clifford suffered a suspected broken nose on Saturday but should be OK having trained on Monday.

Louis Lomas made his first competitive appearance in a Blues shirt against the Moors. Maher said the defender could be in contention for a start but is building up minutes having missed a large chunk of pre-season.

Harry Taylor and Jake Hyde both had their scans on Monday and will know more on the extent of their respective injuries in 48 hours.

Jason Demetriou serves the last of his three-match ban tonight.

Southend United will be 'ready' for clash with Halifax Town

Ready – Southend United boss Kevin Maher is Expecting a tough test against Halifax Town

Southend United boss Kevin Maher says the Shrimpers will be ready for another tricky test at Halifax Town on Tuesday night.

Blues drew 1-1 at Solihull Moors on Saturday to pick up their first point of the season.

But Maher is now expecting a difficult evening against Halifax despite them having lost their opening two games of the season.

“We were delighted with how the players applied themselves at Solihull Moors on Saturday but it’s another tough one tomorrow now,” said Maher.

“Halifax were unlucky at the weekend with the chances they had and should have taken something from the game having watched it.

“We will try to impose our game on them and I’m sure they will be looking to do the same.

“But it’s a tough one and it’s another journey for us too.

“I believe in all the players at the club though and whoever pulls on the shirt will be ready.”

Halifax - who finished fourth last season - have yet to pick up a point this season and, like Blues, will be aiming for their first win of the campaign on Tuesday.

The Shrimpers will again be without the suspended Jason Demetriou who completes his three match ban tomorrow while Rhys Murphy (knee), Harry Taylor (knee), Harry Cardwell (ankle) and Jake Hyde (hamstring) are also out along with Gus Scott-Morriss.

The summer signing suffered a hamstring injury towards the start of pre-season and is not ready to be involved.

“Gus has been out running on the grass and hopefully he will be back in training by the end of the week,” said Maher.

“We’ve got a few other bumps and bruises from the game on Saturday.

“But there won’t be anyone coming back into the squad for the game.”

Chris Millington names an unchanged XI from the loss against Torquay.

Assuming Fonguck sits alongside Miley with Mooney as 10. Not sure that is Fonguck’s game.

We really don’t have much luck with injuries!

I’m really confused as to why Benton hasn’t been in any of the squads.

I was looking at Maher's knees in the photo - bit knobbly or did he have a bad injury at some point

Probably because he's seen as an attacking midfielder, and we have Bridge on the bench for that. I would have likes to see Tommy Davis on the bench tonight instead of either Coker or Wood. if we get a CB injury we will have to make 2 positional changes, not always ideal. Better to have a like for like sub
