No hosepipe ban for our area it seems but Hanningfield is looking a bit low! The walkway to the right of the third picture normally has a row of 10 boats moored ready for fishing, not today though. And as a bit of an extra piece of knowledge, the flat white coffee in the cafe, produced from one of those machines that does it all for you, was, without doubt, one of the worst flat white coffees it had been my misfortune to come across.

Is the village visible now that was supposedly left there when the reservoir was created?

n.b I know it was removed but makes for a good myth!

You can see the church steeple when the water is really low

A lot of Basildon street names are Essex towns in the north of the country. But one street is The Fremnells. This was a manor house that Pevsner (1954 The Buildings of England - Essex) described "it must be c1630-40. Symmetrical on the E plan, with as it's centre, not the porch but the Hall bay window.front etc etc" I'll leave it there as I don't want to bore you. He ended by saying, "it is said that the house is to be submerged by the Hanningfield Reservoir. That would be a thousand pities, as it is the best house of its date in Essex".
Such were things then. I understand it was demolished before being submerged. That's a pity. I'd love it to rise magnificent from the retreating waters.

Unfortunately not, no buildings remain. There are some foundations which may be visible
