If it was some single mother who had claimed £20 to much from the benefit office she would have got dragged before the authorities but if you claim that you did not realise your Mortgage had finish (Yeah Right) and you are a politician, than it is ok.

Steady on - as of May 2009 they've acknowledged the farcical nature of the system and recognised that it needs to be changed as a matter of urgency.

Some cynical souls might question why this never came to the attention of politicians when they voted for the system in the first place, or happily participated in it year after year. But then, who honestly could have foreseen any problem in allowing these unimpugnable pillars of society to regulate themselves, when parliament is so notorious for its absence of sleaze?

how can this be the case? VAT, 40% tax, 1% ni, sperm tax, fuel tax , road tax etc - i reckon it's not paid off until september / october.
