Watching the Melbourne derby over here in Oz last night and Tim Cahill was sent off whilst still a sub and not on the pitch yet.

I was thinking, surely that must have happened at some point in one of our games (either a Southend player or an opposition player) but can't think of a specific example. Can anyone remember it happening in one of our games?

Andy Hessenthaler at Gillingham got a red card before a yellow, which is unusual. How?

He was player manager, and was sub. As manager he got a red card and sent to the stand; he then came on as sub' and got a yellow for a foul!

didnt PB get sent off last season lol

Loads of managers get sent off every season. Unused sub is very rare. The Scunthorpe manager Graham Alexander got a warning yesterday. The first half he never stopped moaning at the 4th official. Then he carried on in the 2nd half and got the warning from the ref. This finally allowed Phil Brown to have a say with the 4th official, as the 4th official had been stuck to GA all game.

That was at Cardiff. He wouldn't actually have been shown a red card but merely sent out of the dugout to the stand or. as in his case, the dressing room.

Towards the end of the game, after him and PB had words, he spent a lot of time standing watching the game from our side of the halfway line, so effectively in PB's technical area.

I didn't think that was allowed.

Famous Swansea match 2003 I think it was Gower had got sent off as he was coming on as sub? We won with 8 men and we were near the bottom of the league, them at top. It was only three or four weeks earlier that we beat them in the LDV and we had 37 fans in the stand that night. :) What a start to Tilly's reign that was.

Yes, you're right. He was trying to intimidate Phil Brown. Alexander behaved like a real A hole yesterday. A very sore loser.
