Looking at booking a decent holiday sometime later in the year - anyone recommend somewhere decent?

Looking for a quiet, relaxing beach type holiday - ideally no kids around!

So far, looked at;

1) Sandals - quite expensive and not meant to be as good as advertised. Lots of beach weddings and when we are looking to go (around Sept) is still hurricane season!

2) Florida/Disney - Was the original choice, but thinks gonna be not relaxing enough. I've been before anyway.

3) Maldives - Too isolated

4) Canary Islands - Been before and quiet nice, so its certainly in the lead.

We've also looked into Texas as they are meant to have some of the nicest beaches in the world!?

Ruling out (places I dont want to go!)

Greece, Turkey, Egypt, Africa and probably Australia (only due to the fact I've already been and you need at least 3 weeks to do it justice).

Any ideas please chaps and chapesses?

Anywhere out of the Euro zone due to the exchange rate. I'm not one for lazing all day though.... Goa (but choose the southern bit), Sri Lanka, Thailand (Koh Samui was lovely 10 years ago but I'd imagine it's become another tourist haven).

Depends what sort of holiday you're after - full package, self-catering or somewhere in-between?

If it's self catering in a villa that you're after, a good option might be Menorca. We're off there in June - and, really, any of the Balearics are ideal in September, I'd have thought. You're outside peak time, there are plenty of quiet bits in which to relax and spend time on the beach, you can potter around and do sight-seeing if you wish...

The thing that we liked about Menorca is that it's only a little bit more than 1 hour to drive from one end of the island to the other. So there's plenty of stuff to see; but nothing's really too far away. Menorca also supposedly has as many beaches as Ibiza & Mallorca put together; and the clincher: Easyjet fly there, so not too pricey to get there.

Have fun!

Matt

Thanks for the suggestions so far, very interesting! Liking the thought of Thailand - and also Matts suggestion of Menorca.

Where abouts are you staying Matt if you dont mind me asking (can PM of course!)

Oh and to expand on your q, prob self-catering as you have better control on what sort of food/drink you get, rather than any old cheap **** on a package deal!

Beach front villa sounds good too :)

Aruba.
Margarita Island.
Cape Verde Islands.

One of these three will fit the bill, trust me.

A bloody long way (as far as Oz nearly) but Rarotonga (part of the Cook Islands) is the most beautiful and peaceful place I've ever been to.

A bitch of a flight though.

I'm off to Pescara in August. My family have property just outside and it's pretty much undiscovered by the Brit tourist trade. Ryanair fly direct to Pescara and the beaches are wonderful, the only problem being is their mostly owned by Hotels who charge entry, but for that you do get a chair each and an umbrella.

If you like your seafood, then you can't go wrong with Pescara... Some of the best food I've eaten.

Sounds fantastic.

Are the drinks promotions any good and do they show Eastenders?

They show Italian Eastenders. It's like Eastenders, only the girls are beautiful, the men fat and they have more sex.

And in typical Italian fashion, you can buy porn on the beach.

Never fancied Malta! Sorry OS :)

That sounds nice too, will check that out - thanks!

How about Bali. Great beaches, quiet secluded areas in Nusa Dua area, and then up the road is the lively Kuta beach. Plenty of exploring around the island to do as well.

Just be careful that the miltant islamists from nearby Java are not in town looking to blow up the Tourist Bars of Kuta.

Seriously Bali is a great place as it does give you something for whatever you fancy. Tropical paradise in the quieter areas and then in Kuta you have the Aussie's Ibizia, also a great place to surf.
