Good day all,

Looking to get away in the last week in August ... Sun 26th ideally as im off for the w/c 27th and Em has about 3 months off.

Basically, looking to get a late deal and wondered if anyone has any suggestions off websites or places to go either thru their own experience and/or friends and families experiences!

Also any decent recommendations for places to go is good - very open to suggestions and all we want is to relax, lie in the sun, take in the dip in the pool and sea ... cheap/value for money is essential !!

Cheers

Kev

We found that the last minute bargain does not really seem to exist anymore. We used First Choice in the end as we couldn't seem to find any benefits from using the travel agents.

Agreed with DTS. Last three holidays this year (each fairly late) have been booked with lastminute.com - seemed to have widest range and best prices.

try my mate @www.bespokegetaways.co.uk/ he books all my family holidays.Give him a call saying what you are looking for and your price range and he will search for you.Always found him to be good on prices. His name is john .

Rhodes is nice and specifically Lindos, little greek village with lovely bars and restaurants. Hire a car for a couple of days if you fancy having a nose about, if not very chilled and hot.

As for getting a deal, sometimes it works out cheaper going direct to the hotel and booking the airline separately, sorting your own transfers.

By far the best for booking hotels is

www.skoosh.co.uk

One of the directors has reported the entire hotel booking industry to the office of fair trading. Within the industry there is a concept called Rate Parity that means whatever web site you use, you will be charged the same rate. Skoosh's view of this is that it is simply another way to describe price fixing. They refuse to comply, and undercut everyone else...

Have a read of this.

"Skoosh.com offers significant savings on all sorts of hotel bookings across the world, and regularly undercuts kayak.co.uk, laterooms.com and hotels.com by as much as 50%"

Cheers all ... will show Em this as she will be dealing with this area but knew the good people of SZ would help!

You cheap skate Kev, take her somewhere hot and expensive

If all you want to do is lie around in the sun, take a dip & have a nice evening meal & a few drinks, then Alykanas / Alykes, Zante is a great choice.

No nightclubs but plenty of restaurants & tavernas which all serve great good value food. The two resorts are no doubt the most laid back places Ive ever been to & for relaxation purposes ideal.

Only thing that puts some off is accomodation. Most of it is typically Greek, studio's with basic kitchen facilities, but all kept very clean. If all you want is somewhere to shower, change & sleep their ideal.

My mate runs a restaurant out there & his website is full of tips & info:-

http://www.shortieweb.com/

He helps let the Venus apartments on his site though there not his, but there's usually accomodation available in the resorts somewhere, only hinderance may be the cost of flights. From my own experience Thomson / Thomas Cook will have reasonably priced flights there if you leave it to a few weeks before, Easyjet never seem to discount theirs at all but still worth looking.

Ive stayed there 3 times now & know the place well, so if you do want any info PM me..

Thanks again for all the advice. We ended up plumping for a week in Vilamoura in Portugal. Flying from Southend to Faro and Vilamoura is near Quartiera and Albufeira is a bit further along! Flights coming home were very expensive as its the last week before the schools go back and think that was a mistake but thats when ive got leave!

Yeah we are about 500 yards away from the marina so sound pretty central and have heard good things about the place from a few people!

P.s Best way to get to resort?! Taxi/Bus/Transfer through a company?!

Personally taxi as its direct and comfortable

see if you can book in advance, we did so in Malta, and cost about half as much as if we had got one from the rank
