TO say Southend United’s 0-0 draw with York City was uneventful would arguably be the biggest understatement of the season so far.

It would always be nice to be able to go shopping and come back with a few new recruits. It would also be pleasant if some of the players currently drawing wages were to put their best foot forward for a change. There is ability within the side. Not world beaters but capable of more than they are showing.

Paul Sturrock has my sympathy when he says he's unable to field a settled side as he has had injuries and suspensions to deal with. However what is a little concerning is this sort of talk was consistent in his first season. Then the play-offs was the aim and the team finished 12th. De je vu this season perhaps.

Chris phillips says more loan signings need to arrive. We have 3 already and a potential 4th in the Millwall Player. I think 5 loanees are allowed in a matchday squad so that doesn't leave much room for many new faces if we could get them.
