How long do we wait?

It's nearly the end of summer now and as promised in Q&A by Ron, building work would be started on FF.

Are alarm bells ringing yet? My question is….how long do we wait for building work to start? Baring in mind waiting has let us decline rapidly in the last year.

It seems to me as long as Ron gives us a quarterly update that it will start in X amount of time everyone is happy.

I am sure I read somewhere recently he said it would start within the next 12 months.. Luckily we have never heard those words before.

Makes you wonder if it will ever go ahead, at least not under Martin's regime. His credit worthiness must be zero. The contractors who start work on the site would need paying up front or with a 100% guarantee, they would be mad to expect payment from any of Martin's outfits.
The proposed casino may not go ahead, as was recently reported, the company involved are fed up with waiting and looking at other sites. Will a hotel be built there? Is there a need for one now? What about a supermarket, we already have Waitrose nearby. Regarding flats/houses, the property market is in a slump.
The whole thing looks precarious.
I would love to see the new stadium go ahead together with other streams of income from shops etc but I just do not think Martin has deep enough pockets. All we have over the past years is promises about start dates, if he had access to money then the whole thing would have been at least half built by now.
The guy is skint/broke etc.

What concerns me more, is the fact that according to a councillor/MP, we could be homeless.

I personally don't think the covenant is worth the paper it's printed on, and I also have a feeling, call it gut-instinct, that there is a deadline on Roots Hall, i.e. we have to be off by such and such.

When does the planning permission expire?

1. The development hereby permitted shall be begun not later than 3 years beginning with the date of this permission (30th June 2008)

In short, we need to be on-site and have the foundations in before Thursday 30th June 2011. Unless that has changed.

I thought Ron said after the court case that the next thing to do is start the building work immediately.

I fear that as well but I'm hoping Sainsbury's are patient and take into account the prospect of doing such would possible damage them in the Southend. Has any work actually started on the site yet? Weren't the boards meant to go up in July?

Yes, boards were due to go up by the end of July. Stated by RM in Blog Wars part 2, "revenge of the wig" a couple of months ago.

I did see a lawn mower over there on Thursday, maybe that is the start of things to come :D

Nah not even slightly. As if they'd give two sh*ts about a few thousand disgruntled Southend fans, when they're acquiring what will eventually be their flagship store, and therefore grossing them X amount of millions.

We're in a very precarious position, which could all end in tears, especially IF it is true about the covenant and a possible deadline

It wont be sainsburys fault if we go under it will be Ron Martins, HE sold RH to them!

no boards up yesterday when i was over that way. its pretty poor really as theres a B&Q round the corner.

I would say that if we are not on site by the end of the season then we never will be and that the club can kiss goodbye to fossetts and more worryingly roots hall.

I think a statement from the board about movement on site or rather lack of it would be nice as we were told or rather lied to that we would be on site by now.

Friend from Wino Express on Friday's return trip spoke to Uncle Ron at the Watford Gap Services, November is the new start date!
