I can only see that ron now is at this club for the sake of a new stadiam. over the past few years he has let down the fans, players, managers, taxman, etc... and in my opinion has lost the trust of everyone at the club and now with his request for financial help from the fans i wonder should we be looking to take the club from him if he cant cope? i know this is not a new subject but in my mined i cant for the life of me understand why we put up with it? i think we run the risk of loseing the club we love so dearly. i would be really intrested to know if anyone as anything to say in his defence? i could have it all wrong but i cant think of one good thing that has come from ron martin of a late! (since we were in the championship!) and feel we as fans should make a stand against this as a group before its too late! i would love to hear any ideas or views fans have on this as i dont know if im saying what everyone is thinking or i am missing something!!

many thanks!
sufc for life (or at least i hope so!)

im not trying to cause a divide between fans, i am only asking for opinions on what is best for this football club for the sake of survival

I don't trust RM, I understand a lot of what he has done but don't trust him. I trust Tara and the other fella that has come on board, I feel we are starting to see a change for the better and I really believe there are big changes for the better afoot.

i feel it may be hard to move onwards and upwards with a chairman no one trusts?

look nobody trusts ron, its not hard to see why. But talk of the club going under or being sold is pointless. Ron has the money to keep us going up until the point and beyond a new stadium being built.

ron has put too much in and stands too much to lose to ever see us go under or sell us up until the point he has made a £££ and wants to sell us

you better all get used to the fact we are gonna be small and the playing budget minimised until the point ron decides he has made enough money and cant be bothered any more and puts the club up for sale

It makes no difference to Wrong Martin if the club was to go skint & fold. The only difference is he won't be getting an income for the rent from the ground & he would lose a lot of goodwill from the people of the area. Also he knows that he would be living in fear for the rest of his life too!

Eh, when are we ever gonna be in a position to pay rent?

This is a big summer, as according to RM and TB there should be movement on the stadium prior to August with tenders out (alledgedly) and the Vic avenue shops close to a deal.

If nothing has happened by Sept/Oct then RM should be very worried.

i trust Ron Martin - i understand his motives - and hes in a much better situation having taken the club down and reduced the cost of running SUFC -

i expect he did very well out of the successful years and is now closer to his "development" than before -

while he controls SUFC he controls the biggest retail site in Europe and has used SUFC to leverage a green field development scheme out of a pliant council -

he has a 5 million pound credit facility from sainsburys to play with and will have enough season ticket money to keep an Accrington sized football operation going -

the club should have a good future ahead of it as he soon as hes gone

Do I trust Ron in general? No.
Do I trust Ron to care about the players and their wage packets? No.
Do I trust Ron to keep the club afloat no matter how poorly? Yes.

I don't see why he would have tried so hard to keep us afloat if he didn't care about us going under, for that reason I think he will keep us alive, no matter how weak our finance will be

Most of which was spent on tax debts as has been explained about 27 times.

Your whole post says it was always Ron Martins plan to take the club down to league two to save money, however this seems to completely ignore the fact it was Ron Martin ploughing far too much money into long expensive contracts in the first place that played a massive part in this mess.

Martin has had his back to the wall moneywise for a few seasons now, his general lack of cashflow, has imo forced him to make unpopular decisions. Now wether this because of his bad managment, or a downfall in the general marketplace im not sure, prehaps a bit of both. Trust him,mm well no not really but at the moment it seems he is all we have.

It depends what you are trusting him to do...

No-one likes what has happened but if the credit crunch hadn't arrived when it did, we'd probably have the stadium by now and everything that was initially been promised may well have been delivered.

To elaborate very slightly on southendkids answer...

Do I trust Ron generally? Not particularly, but then I have never found property developers particularly trustworthy anyway.
Do I trust Ron to care about the players and wage packets? Care maybe, do anything about it, no.
Do I trust Ron to keep the club afloat no matter how poorly? Absolutely.

And to answer Rayleigh Boy, I don't think Ron has benefitted much during his tenure as Chairman. He was almost certainly in a far better financial position before taking over than he is now, albeit without the potential rewards FF will bring. But this has pretty much brought financial ruin on him and his companies, so I don't think saying "he's done pretty well" is a valid accusation.

We won't living at Uncle Wrongs ground rent free forever! It will be his legacy to his kid(s) & provide an income for his nursing home & pay for his lavish funeral!!

If he walks away when (if!) FF is built, we wont be able to afford to pay rent unless someone else comes in and pumps endless amounts of money in. If Ron or stays or that someone else come sin and spends to get us into the Championship then we may be in a position to pay rent if we can sustain ourselves at that level.

Anyway surely the retail park would be his real legacy?

The football ground was just the vehicle he had to use to get his retail site/casino/flats built. That's his legacy. There's no fortune to be made as landlord of a lower-league football club.
