Over three years ago, myself and Scriv launched ShrimperZone onto an unsuspecting public. Neither of us expected the site (and its forums) to take off as well as it did, nor to find ourselves running a site that attracted a hit count that was regularly hitting the 250,000 mark each week. It has been a real labour of love and a project that I have enjoyed immensely since its inception in the Bar Victoria Court in the spring of 2001. Scriv left earlier this year to successfully revamp the official site and matchday magazine.

Unfortunately, circumstances mean that I now have to fade away from having a controlling interest in the site. It's been a tough decision but one which has had to be made. As I move into the next phase of my new life in Spain, I no longer have the time to devote to maintaining the site. Nor can I contribute towards the hosting costs. Reluctantly I've passed over total control (and responsibility) of my most successful ever project to Napster and Leeboy. I know they'll do their utmost to maintain the reputation of ShrimperZone, not only amongst our own fans but also across the footballing community.

It's been fun. It's also been frustrating. With a bit of commercial income to support the site, it can get even better.

With immediate effect, all match reports, articles and comments / suggestions should be sent to Napster and Leeboy. I will maintain the SZ Prediction League until the end of the season; just carry on as normal.

Thanks to everyone for their comments - constructive and critical - and if anyone thinks they can do better or fancies giving the lads a hand (especially financially), drop them a line.

A brilliant site and first port of call for all things Southend. Thanks for all that you have done in founding/running this site, Mike, and all the best with "Spanishshrimpers.com"!

Yep, thanks and well done Mike. I've been visiting SZ for a some years and SZ must be my most visited internet site (after dwarfporn.com) during the day - and as a web designer, I'm on the net 90% of the day (ok, I should be working

)

I'm sure it will be safe in its new hands, but for now - thanks Mike!

Thanks Mike. You've done a great job with this site

It is. And I would not have relinquished control had I not been convinced that Napster and Leeboy would strive to keep ShrimperZone at the top of the tree. Thanks!

Good luck with your new venture spanishshrimpers.com Mike. Great credit goes to you for making this site what it is today! cheers...

Guess you'll still be a regular poster on here when you get the time... putting the world to rights 'n' all!

As said, top work. Having been both entirely without and, indeed, entirely with SZ within the last twelve months, I can assure you that without it is tantamount to walking round in fog.

Although, we whinged a bit, you know we meant well really.

Would offer to assist where i could but I know bot all about web design and have less money thatn your average Field mouse (being a student). Sorry.:(

I definetly echo the sentiments posted here. I'm just hoping you won't be a stranger to the board now.

I'm glad you've given up control. SZ was crap under your reign!

Just thinking about the financial side of things... why not open up an account or something whereby SZ users can donate set amounts of 2, 3, 5 or 10 if they want to?

If people don't want to donate... then they don't have to.

Also, why not see if one or two other people want to start a 'commercial department' where banners and other streams of revenue can be explored?

A Paypal account makes it very easy for people to donate...

Not for me it doesn't. Paying some cash to somebody in December would though.

We all enjoy SZ... in fact many of us depend on it... so is it asking too much for donations? This way we can help to give SZ a future. Why should the financial burden fall on just a couple of people for all of us to benefit from?

Thoughts?

And relatively easy to set up, as recently done on the Trust Site

Mike good luck in whatever will be taking up your time.

I think it's just a reason to drink more beer and top up his tan after spending time in the uk.

Good idea about setting up a shrimperzone account for donations, Why not set up a bank account and a paypal account to please all?

That just brought a tear too my eye Michael.

Shrimperzone has helped me get through those recruitment bad days up here in the smoke and has been a good way at letting off steam at the likes of CS Cockles and Miss Rees.

The legend lives on god save the Zone.

What a load of absolute lobbocks.  You've resigned from SZ rather than have to publish my match report from Saturday!  I know it was a bit dull but there's no need to go that far!
biggrin.gif
Have fun Mike, I'll be interested to see your Spanish reports..  This site was always a credit to it's creators & I hope will continue to be.

Having said how good it has been.  I was browsing the pub last night & saw the threads on US politics. Mmmm!  I will restrict my view just to say that I know several people e.g. McNasty (well he's the size of several people!), who will now not post often on the site due to the puerile comments of some people about subjects they know bugger all about.  If you tell them this you are branded as a bully & with Mike off to his new venture that'll be one more voice of reason either gone or much reduced.  I actually thought of making my match report on Saturday an ironic tirade against this type of poster, but then couldn't be arsed as they wouldn't understand it, did a boring one but it never saw the light of day.  Ho hum!  If your having a message board on the Spanish site Mike perhaps all us miserable old gits could have our own MISOG forum?
